birthday gift for new-ish boyfriend?
Permalink Closed

so i've been dating my boyfriend for about 3 months and his birthday is coming up next weekend. he's been so good to me so i want to get him something nice...but i don't want to get anything too extravagant because we haven't been together that long and it seems a little weird to get him a lavish gift, you know?

he looooves all sports, rap, and sneakers (seriously, this guy has more sneakers than anybody i've ever met). he's turning 27. anybody have any ideas? thanks!

eta: i just found out that dave chappelle (who he loves) is going to be doing 15 shows at a comedy club in SF over the next few weeks! right away i knew that this would be a great gift for him but now i've given it away. i had to tell him about it because i wanted to make sure to get tickets for a night that he could go. when he asked how we could get tickets, i told him that i would take care of it but i didn't say anything yet about making this part of his birthday gift. could i say that once i get the tickets or is it lame because it's not a surprise anymore? i could take him to a show and then get him a little something else or treat him to a nice dinner on his actual birthday. or i could just treat him to the show and then get him another good gift. i wouldn't mind doing that either- he always pays for everything and has taken me to some nice places. (we went winetasting in napa on our first date!) what do you all think?

I'd say show + dinner is a good idea, plus a small momento that he can actually enjoy unwrapping at dinner (a cool new wallet, a leather bracelet, cologne, something like that).

Is he a huge fan of Dave Chappelle? If so, you could get the DC movie that just came out (Block Party?) and the DVDs from his Comedy Central show also.

The tickets sound good but I'd definitely get something else, even if it's small, just for the surprise factor.
