I have pretty much been a VS girl since my mid-twenties. But I recently got a serious steal on Cosabella thongs and I am converted! I'd like to start buying more of these (or Hanky Panky...or on Gossamer) as I need to replace my underwear. But I hate the idea of spending full price on panties. Any recs on when/where to buy?

Also, I have been wearing mostly VS bras for a long time, and am fine with the Body by Victoria that I mostly wear under tees and sweaters. But I am unhappy with their Second Skin Satin bras - they don't seem to hold up very well for me. Any thoughts on who makes a good demi? With some of my lower-necked tops, a full coverage bra just doesn't work. I like having a spaghetti-strap bra for certain tops/tanks.

Here's a pic of the VS bra to illustrate the shape I'm looking for:

check out go clothing for sales on cosabella and also nordies will randomly throw them on the sale racks.

For on gossamer check out off saks and loehmans.  I've gotten them from off saks for $3 a pair.

Have you tried Gap bras?

Bluefly just started to carry lingerie; here's a link to what they currently have from Cosabella:

Cosabella

I like Gap bras too, and also the demis from Calvin Klein. I get them at the TJ Maxx in my hometown or wait for underwear sales, and I really like how they fit.

Chantelle and Aubade make amazing demis - and they are both on sale at Marshall's, Loehmann's, etc. fairly frequently.

TJ Maxx in my experience is the best to buy all of the fantastic brands that the other ladies have just mentioned. You might want to try Eberjay, too.

Another place that sometimes I have found surprisingly good cute but cheap underwear has been H & M. They usually have at least some microfiber sets that are both comfy and pretty.

Thank you!! I will start hunting around so I can catch some sales. Haven't been to TJ Maxx in ages, but we have a couple sort of near us. And a Loehmann's pretty close, too.

littlebean, I *wish* we had an H&M here. We keep hearing rumors about Atlanta, but so far they've only been rumors. :(

halleybird, I have not tried the Gap bras. I'll go poke around the web site. Are they available in stores - I seem to remember a "Gap Body" store when I lived in Phoenix - or online only?

Yep, yep. I've also seen them at Last Call - always cheap - if you have one close to you.

I think you can get them at GapBody, but I ordered mine online (I am too lazy to drive 40 miles to the store). I am a total convert, though!

I like Le Mystere bras for everything.

I think Gap bras won't be supportive enough...otherwise I'd wear their bras becuse they're really comfy. I am going to try out the Gap underwear

i heard that the fredricks version of the the hanky panky ones are identical to the HP ones, but i haven't tried them because i'm scared of fredrick's quality, so if you're brave, maybe try ordering a couple (i plan on doing it soon).

also, i ALWAYS buy my lingerie from TJ Maxx. you can get really nice brands there.  recently i bought a ton of cosabella from Nordstrom rack.  also, i second the eberjey recommendation as well.  one more thing to consider...i have heard from three clothing snobs that calvin klein lingerie is great.  my sister gets her's from dept. sales, and my best friend/millionaire who doesn't need to buy them on sale, buys them at the calvin klein outlet.

HTH!

I plan on giving this a shot since I'm going to Frederick's tonight (it's right by work, free booze, and 20% off underwear...why not?). I'm also going to give GapBody's version a shot too.

Lilykind, please post your thoughts after doing this. I am a 36C so have similar sizing issues - the girls need support, so wispy little bras don't really work for me. It's hard to find a demi that looks soft and pretty by actually holds things together!

I tried the GapBody bras...they don't have enough support for anyone above a full B/small C (I'm a large D/small DD). Mine were (for lack of a better description) jumping all over the place.

I tried all these.

Perfect under tops...but while the bottom stayed put, I felt like it didn't keep the sides or top in well.

Yeah....um...as a rule cotton bras are terrible for support. No different. But it's SO CUTE that I almost wanted to get it to have pretty printed bras.

This isn't a demi, but it's the most supportive GapBody bra available. It's better than the other two and is a perfectly serviceable bra, but at $36, I'd rather spend a few more dollars to get the infinitely more awesome Le Mystere Dream Tisha.

I do a 'bounce test' and kind of jump up and down in the fitting room to see how my my chest moves. The only bra that has ever passed this test with flying colors is the aforementioned Le Mystere Dream Tisha bra that's on sale at Nordies, but I think that it will be a bit much on the coverage end. If I could afford it, I would've bought about 10 of them and been set for the next 5-10 years.
