Has anybody been to Greece?

We are planning our 2nd anniversary trip to Greece and Im trying to come up with a budget and Im wondering how much we can expect to pay on food, shopping (what's it like there? what is there to bring home?), transportation, activities?

Any ideas how much we should allot? We are going for 9 nights, 2 in Athens, 3 in Mykonos and 4 in Santorini.

Nope, Peru is in October. Greece would be for May 2007.

Soulchic- sorry to hijack but you'll have to tell me all about your trip to Peru. We are going Dec 2007.

HI Soulchic-

I've been many times since my family is from Greece and I especially love Mykonos and Santorini...

Without knowing what kind of accomodations you have or what you like to do, I can tell you that both Mykonos and Santorini are pretty pricey islands since they're both so popular...but like any vacation destination, you can find places to eat that are budget friendly (like grab a gyros sandwich on the fly) or you can have a really nice dinner at a swanky place that'll set you back a couple hundred bucks...As for things to do, Mykonos is primarily a party/beach island since there's not alot of historical note on the island (there are excursions to the nearby island of Delos where there are some ruins/artifacts) but otherwise there are great beaches and fantastic nightlife- and yes, excellent shopping (high end boutiques, artwork, jewerly can all be found). Santorini has more activities (more ancient ruins, excursions to the volcano, etc...) and is just breathtaking...and of course, also lots of good shopping...

I think its good you're going in May since it won't be as crowded and you won't be paying high season prices, but it definitely won't be cheap by any means...

If you have specific questions I can give you more info if you'd like- feel free to PM...

Hope this helps!

Congrats on your 2nd anniversary! In Athens I would definitely check out the quaint Plaka district for dinner. A number of  restaurants there have an incredible view of the Acropolis, and it's absolutely beautiful when it's lighted up at night.  I can't remember the name of the restaurant I went to, but $12 took care of the appetizer, dinner, dessert, and wine.  Unless you're into fine dining, you could get by on $5 for lunch, and $10-$15 for a nice dinner.  Boy I really miss the food.

Now for shopping...I wasn't crazy about the clothing styles, but I picked up some gold and coral jewelry. This is where I splurged.   Last year when I was in Greece, most of the girls wore tank tops, with jeans or skirts. The style is pretty laid back.  Mykonos and Santorini are absolutely gorgeous, def more pricey but worth it! Have a wonderful time there!
