I loved Nashville- I thought the city was really clean and very unique. Seattle is great, a very cool city. San Francisco is also cool. Also a lot of the smaller towns around San Fran are amazing- Mendocino, Napa Valley, Berkley are all really beautiful and have that laid back vibe. Vegas is 100% pure fun, although I wouldn't be able to stand it for more than 3 or 4 days.

I didn't really like Orlando. I think that's the only place I've been that I wouldn't go back to.

FYI I am very much a city person.

Adore:

• NYC (but I'm a native)


• Boston (if it wasn't for the Red Sox they'd be even better)


• DC (though I'd never live here because of the fact that it's so humid in the summer...well, there IS Tyson's and Tyson's II)

Okay:

• Los Angeles (I live here for my career and because my BF hates all the cites I adore. I think this has to do with the fact that I hate driving. I think this is a terrible city to vacation in...it's more of a 'living' city)


• San Diego (gorgeous, but the food's generally terrible and it's not a vacation place so much as it is a 'live' place)


• Philadelphia


• Southern Maine coastline (v. pretty, but hard to stay much longer than a few days IMO)


• West Texas (it's a lot of fun if you're into sharpshooting and hordback riding and being on a ranch with BBQ, but total culture shock if you're not...still fun though)

Don't care for

• Orlando (except my BF's parents will be moving there soon so I'm stuck! Gah! I'm so not a Disney person except for Epcot and it's just the biggest toruist trap ever. Ugh!)

I'll think of more.

 

As a foreigner, I think the US is a great country for traveling. I've lived in NYC and Boston and absolutely love both to death.


I adore Hawaii, especially Maui. I also really like San Francisco, Washington DC, Salem and Key West. And Tarrytown is a great destination for a day trip from NYC. I also liked Miami Beach and Orlando but wouldn't probably go back.


I'd love to visit Seattle, Chicago, Charleston and Savannah - and a bunch of other places I don't really know anything about.

I can find fun anywhere that being said, my favorite cities are:

-Charleston, SC

-Carmel/Monterey/Napa

-San Antonio

-Chicago

-Nashville

 

Places I don't like so much (the funny thing here is that mostl of the cities I am going to mention were part of my work territory at some time):

-Pittsburgh (This place is so hard to navigate! )

-Detroit (the suburbs are nice but anything in "the city of Detroit" was scary to me)

-Washington DC

-Memphis

-St. Louis

-New York City (yeah I know I'm in the minority here but NYC is just too overwhelming to me and I know this is stupid but ever since 911 I'm a little creeped out by NYC)

 

I've actually seen a lot more in Europe than I have in the US, which is kind of sad, but I really can't deal with driving so that limits my ability to travel here.


***** NYC - can't imagine living anywhere else.

***** Kentucky - I went to Louisville, Lexington and Frankfort on a road trip. The whole state seems beautiful and there are a lot of fun, wacky things to do.

***** San Francisco - the weather was horrible when I went but it's such a pretty city!

**** Miami - I was just in South Beach and it was February so it wasn't very crowded. Lots of fun, easy to walk around, and I love the Art Deco buildings.

**** Borrego Springs, CA - not much of a town but the drive there is amazing, the desert is beautiful and there is a big national park there which is beautiful in wildflower season.

**** Chincoteague and Assateague, VA - I loved going here when I was little. Assateague Island is a national park with wild ponies and deer and lots of other animals. I remember Chincoteague being cool and weird.

*** Chicago - fab architecture, good food, stinky weather

*** LA - great museums, fun shopping, cool surroundings, but I don't think I could live there.

*** Philadelphia - really good museums, nice old city center, good nightlife

*** Providence RI, New Haven and New London CT - I really like these cities and always think of them together because they are small and historic and have some really interesting aspects but some parts can seem depressing and run down.

** Las Vegas - It was fun for a few days but I wouldn't care if I never got to go back.

* St. Louis - the downtown is attractive but totally dead, the riverfront is kind of ugly, but there are a few really great sights (the cathedral with all the mosaics, Forest Park, Botanical Gardens, Union Station, and of course the arch).

Washington DC - I haven't been there since high school but I really hated the layout of the city and would probably only go back if there were a really good exhibit at one of the museums.

• The charming/quirky parts of Baltimore (and I love it for having the best mom&pop restaurants)

Cities I like to go to for 3-4 days:

• NYC (love the shops, love the food, but it's way too crowded)


• Las Vegas
