i am going to an industry party in NYC thursday night... my friend (who i haven't seen in a while and is edgy and funky and fashionable is taking me)... i didn't know i was going to the party when i was packing my bag for this trip a week ago. the basics i have with me to build an outfit around are:
my 7 dark denim jeans
my michael kors light sand color sandals
and some basic tanks... i will be in areas over the next few nights in north jersey where i could pick up some basics... i was thinking just doing some layered tanks and finding a few long necklaces... would that work? would it be passable?
I think that would work okay. To "funkify" the outfit I would try and look for some rock-n-roll, more vintage type tanks and go with silver necklaces that were sorta heavier and possibly even rusty(?). Something like this:
Maybe one over the other in complementing colors, with the one on top large enough to belt it really slouchy like? And cuff bracelets that are similar to the belt? Maybe?
Or perhaps simple is better. Maybe go with tanks with great detailing and rich colors, like a plum with an open back and a simple pendant necklace, apple or pear perhaps on the pendant?

I think a plain tank with a nice necklace would be great. A lot of times at parties and events I find myself preferring girls who are wearing outfits with just 1 or 2 great pieces, like fabulous shoes and an unusual necklace but jeans and a tee, over girls who seem like they tried to go all-out wearing 5 designery looking things.
Anyway, Banana has a lot of cute necklaces right now and I'm sure you can easily find one in Jersey
