What do you put in your carry-on?
Permalink Closed

I'm leaving for Disney World on Sunday (!!!) and my bags are all packed. The only thing I'm having a hard time with is what to put in my carry-on. I know that I need a change of plans just incase my luggage gets lost (my condolences, e-doli), but what else? We're taking the Magical Express from the airport to our resort (it's a Disney shuttle) and they bring our bags to our room, although they won't get there for a few hours. I was thinking that I need a bathing suit incase we decide to hop in the pool... but what else? I'm a packing spaz... please help me so I don't go crazy! TIA

OMG you have to post a review of everything there when you get back.  I am planning my Disney Trip in Sept right now.  I am staying at the Pop Century hotel and staying for 7nights/8days/5days in the park with the disney dining plan and doing the magical express. I am printing out all kinds of crap right now.  Where are you staying and what is your plan??  You can pm me so not to hijack the thread completely.

Ok back to packing... pack your shampoo, conditioner, makeup, brush, comb, sunscreen, 1 change of clothes including undies, your swimsuit, and a coverup if you use one, tooth brush, tooth paste and any jewelry you might want to bring (I probably won't bring any on me when I go), sunglasses, camera, film/memory stick, battery charger, cell phone charger, disney guidebook/travel arrangements, essential medicines along with tylenol or ib profin.

I'm working on my packing list (I'm that bored at work) so if I come up with anything else today I'll let you know.

I think that Aurora covered just about everything that you should want to pack.  I would also suggest bringing a book, a deck of cards (or some other gaming device), ipod... I guess just entertainment stuff.  I hate sitting, not doing anything for prolonged amounts of time, I think that I have ADD.  Have fun and I am so jealous!

one more thing.  Not sure on the airline you are using or how long the flight is but if you have bought headphones from an airline in the past bring them because on both of my flights from houston to orlando (2.5hrs) on continental they played movies.  headphones were sold on board for $5 and they appreciate exact change if you want to buy them.

Also another few tips not packing related but for disney over all are:

bring a roll of quarters and new pennies for the penny machine if you want penny souviners and pack them in the mini m&m containers.

another one is if you want to do the new disney pin trading thing go buy cheapy ones at the disney store (must be metal pins though) and use those to trade with the cast members since they have to trade with you.

hand sanitizers/wipes might be worth it too.

As I have lost my luggage before _ I am now OCD about packing my carry-on

  • throw blanket to use instead of the gross one the airline gives you

  • (if it is a longer trip) my fom pillow - great to use on plane, car, and at the hotel!

  • 1 change of clothes (usually a pair of jeans, top, and jacket)

  • bikini (practical)

  • toiletries, toothbrush, hairbrush - only the bare necessities you need (esp contact stuff if you wear them)

  • lotion

  • magazines/book

  • ipod

  • several underwear

  • camera

  • jewelry if you bring it

  • snacks

  • documents, itinerary, etc.

  • baby wipes or face wipes

  • and it is a REALLY long flight possibly a portable dvd player

Thanks so much girls, that was perfect!

Aurora, we're staying at the Old Key West Resort. The Pop Century looks like so much fun... that's where I want to stay next time we go. I'll definitely PM you with what our plan was and how it worked out (my friend is taking care of the details)!

Talk to you girls when I get back!

The few things I ALWAYS make sure to have with me in my carry on are:

A change of underwear
Contact lens case, glasses, contact solution
BC pills

Pretty much everything else I can do without for a night or two and you can always get a toothbrush and shampoo and toiletries from the front desk of any hotel.  The lighter my carry on, the happier I am, usually, so I try to keep it light and bring just the stuff that I REALLY need if my luggage were to get lost.

i stayed at old key west a couple of summers ago with my family, we had SOOOO much fun.  The advice sounds good- if you have space, i'd bring a couple of outfits- i tend to put my favorite clothes in my carry on as opposed to a ton of toiletries because i know i can replace them cheaply if going somewhere in the country- maybe it would be different if i was going somewhere off the beaten track.

yes, considering my pending baggage ordeal, i will be extra careful next time about packing.  i would make sure to pack a bathing suit and a few outfits in your carry on along with any toiletries that may be hard to replace (like makeup, etc. -- shampoo, toothpaste would be pretty easy to find when you're there if needed).  pack enough that you could survive the trip with only your carry-on if you had to.

i alway used to check everything b/c it was so much easier not to carry stuff throught the airport, but after losing this bag, i will probably try to pack everything in carry-on size bags from now on, that way even if we have to check them at the gate, i know they're on the plane and coming back.
