So, we're going on vacation next week (yay!!!) and we're a bit confused at how to go about tipping. We're staying at an all inclusive, and drinks and whatnot are included. I'm assuming that we're still supposed to tip the bartenders, but are we really supposed to carry cash around with us on the beach/ in the pool (I mean, how do you tip at a swim up bar?). I don't want to look rude or stupid.
You can check your resort's website for their policy but in most all inclusives I think tipping is prohibited. I will say that I once stayed at one that was changing management - the employees were all having to re-apply for their already low paying jobs & we tipped the whole time. I think they accepted it because of the situation but it was our understanding that in a normal circumstance they would be fired if they accepted tips. On that note, if you find someone who will take it when you happen to have money around, it GREATLY improves the service. Which resort are ya'll staying at?

i just write my room number and the tip on the receipt, at the end it gets billed to my room. also, when i was in puerto vallarta (younger 18) when i ordered drinks with my sister the beach attendants would tell us how much to add which was always 10% so i did 15% not my standard 20%. i just thought it was funny that they told us what number to write and that it was such a low number. they didn't do it in a rude way or a way to scam me, i think they just figured we were young girls and maybe didn't know how to handle it (or maybe they thought we were drinking so we may not be able to figure it out )

See, we never got a "receipt" since it was all inclusive so there wasn't an opportunity to leave a tip. Maybe search trip reports for that resort? I learned so much more & got some good info from trip reports than from the actual company sites...
I found this on one report that I found for your resort, but he was referencing a dinner... "Don’t forget to tip the staff, they make little money and live hard life they work hard and deserve a tip. The smile on their face is enough to continue to tip the whole trip."
Here is the link to that report if you are interested - it's pretty good! Dreams trip report
Resort looks WONDERFUL btw, I'm so jealous! Have room to hide me in your luggage?

for something like or a swim up bar where they don't give you a receipt, or dinner, i would just not tip them, then the last day tip everyone who has waited on you. you will find both. you will find people who don't tip at all and some people who tip, but i think at all inclusive resorts you're not expected to carry money with you at all times (especially not in the pool), so i think it's best to just pick a day, i usually do the last day and tip a large amount because i feel like the attendants deserve something, but that's just me.

At one all inclusive we stayed in there was a seperate charge for tipping staff on our bill. At another tipping was "prohibited" but the employees always took it when offered.
Generally, we tip the hotel staff on the last day of our trip, or the day before.
