Problem with long tanks and tees
Permalink Closed

I've been looking for casual tanks and tees to wear under other tops but the problem is that they all seem to be too long. I guess I have a short torso because most of the tops I've tried on cover my stomach and butt completely, and on a pear-shaped person like me that usually looks horribly unflattering. Especially when the fabric is thin and clingy and accentuates every single bulge.

I've noticed that some of those overly long tops actually have a raw hem. Maybe the idea is that you can just take a pair scissors and shorten them yourself...

Here's an example of a tank that almost hits at the mid-thigh on me:

Does anyone else have this problem? And if so, have you found any tops that are a bit shorter but still cover the midriff? I'm getting desperate!

Try AE's beaters  - I have several and find the length to be shorter, but definitely covers your midriff.

Also, I have a ton of the regular length from ON, and I've found if you throw them in the dryer, they'll shrink up.  HTH!

I also have some of the ON regular-length beaters and I like the length a lot.  They are long enough for layering and don't ride up, but not too long where they go way down past your hips.  They also make a longer length but I feel the regular is long enough for me.

I think that's definitely the idea with some. I got a wife-beaterish dress today at f21, but it went halfway down my calves. It is most definitly meant to be shortened (I hope, because that's what I'm doing!)

Fortunately, I found some camis at Banana today that should be great for layering. They're a perfect length on me and so soft - and on sale.

in white, green, and brown

I can identify with you completely on this one. I have been looking for the same tops, and have ran across the same problem- too long. I have lower stomach bulge, and if they are too long, this problem is accentuated even more. I am going to BR today and will check out the ones you found to work, looks like they will work in length by the look of the photo. Thanks for the tip!

It's actually pretty funny that just a while ago people with longer torsos had difficulty finding tees and beaters that would be long enough. Now it seems that everything out there is super-long and I'm having difficulty finding tops that don't look like mini-dresses on me.

Just thought I'd share - I found a perfect ribbed tank at Gap that is exactly the right lenght on me and very soft and really great for layering. You can buy 2 for $20.

I got mine in the store so I'm not sure if they sell that exact tank online.
