Disappointing and Suprisingly Good Stores
Permalink Closed

Inspired by the "hype" poll.

After two horrible online ordering experiences, and two horrible in-store experiences, I am done with VS. Their clothes neither look (in fabric and cut) nor fit the way they are depicted in pictures and size charts. It is so annoying! And now, VS ... the largest retailer of women's underwear that I am aware of in the world ... no longer makes bras in my size. Umm, hello? My size isn't even *that* uncommon!

On the other hand, I went to H&M this weekend expecting F21-style disorganization and poor quality (not that that stops me from shopping at F21, but I have to gear myself up), and was pleased to find some cute, seemingly well-made stuff. AND, it was on fairly organized racks. Yay!

Totally agree with VS - I never, ever liked their bra's and thought the quality sucked. I recently ordered a wrap-dress from them and it took FOREVER to arrive. When it did arrive it was only "OK" - it looks good, but the quality is pretty shitty. I didn't feel like bothering to return it because the return process seemed so cumbersome..and it's not bad.

I think I generally dislike Old Navy. I try again, and again, and again to buy clothes from them but the quality is absolutely horrible. I don't know if this is just the stuff I'm picking out or what..because other people seem to have success there..but I feel like everything I buy from them looks OK maybe one time I wear it..and then it just falls apart, loses shape, etc.

On to the good. I had never ordered from zappos.com until about a month ago. I'm generally not a HUGE fan of ordering shoes online because I think it's risky - but they have absolutely awesome customer service and a great return policy.

I've always had really bad luck with Club Monaco and Armani Exchange. Everything I've bought from those two stores has looked cheap after a couple wears (and lost shape). I've banned myself from buying anything from those two stores ever again.

Hmm...I actually like Victoria's Secret.  Good jammies, velour loungewear, and I like their polos.

Old navy I go in with great expectations what I saw on their website, in store it's very dissapointing.

Oh, here is another store, BCBG.  I don't know if it's just because it's an outlet but for the prices I expect great things.  It's a nice and neat store but IMO it's an overpriced Forever 21.

I think Bebe is sort of the same way. The quality is crap for the price.

I can't stand Old Navy. Used to like it, but their clothes are so cheap for what they are. They fall apart, shrink, etc. I sometimes like stuff from the Gap, but it is about the same as ON for me.  Banana Republic has nice stuff, and is more my style, but they are geared at older women/men & their stuff seems a bit better made.

J. Crew is another one. I love their stuff, but man their jeans do not work for me. I'm not 5'9 or a size 0, so they don't look like they do on the models on me. I think it is weird that their shorts fit perfect in a sz 4, but their jeans look funky!

I'm generally not a mall store person, especially not one that is available in anywhere, USA...so take my wore with a grain of salt.

Suprisingly Good.

I'm really growing to love Forever 21...I started checking the fabric content and I'm REALLY impressed that they're making some of their dresses from a modal jersey (modal wears better than cotton). I can barely tell the difference in that material from the Rachel Pally modal jersey items I own. Lately, it's also been pretty organized even though I'm going after work.

Dissapointing

I think about 75% of what Bebe carries is high end streetwalker. The other 25% is cute, but I couldn't bear to part with so much money for so little quality. Arden B, Guess and Marciano all fit into this category as well. I don't think I've bought anything from these stores in at least a year.

BCBG. I generally love the aesthetic, especially during the fall/winter, but their clothes are not forgiving to those with boobs and hips and curves. I look horrendous in 2/3 of what they sell.

I hate VS too. I got a bra fitting at Nordies and I'm honestly never going to VS for bras again unless it's an emergency. There's a VS within walking distance of my home.

Wow, thanks for the heads up.  Too bad the one in my city closed.
