We're in a similar situation, actually. Getting married in Portland, we live in Denver, and neither of the groomsmen live in Portland. We ended up renting through a local Portland place - FH got measured while he was visiting, but the other guys went to a tux shop where they lived and got measured and sent the measurements in to the Portland place.
Fh and the groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with a metallic chocolate brown vest and tie. The dads, my brother, and our officiant are wearing black tuxes with champagne vests and ties, so I don't think it looks prom-y at all! It's subtle and sophisticated IMO.
HTH!

when my sister got married, some of their groomsmen were in other states, so she found a chain that had locations near everyone (squire tux was the one she used). she went to the location nearest her and picked the suits, and then the guys all went to their repespective places to be measured. i think that where they picked them up depended on when they were arriving for the wedding. one guy got here a few days ahead and got his suit here, while i think the other picked it up where he lived and brought it with him.
but the other guys went to a tux shop where they lived and got measured and sent the measurements in to the Portland place.
My brother in law is getting married summer 07 and we live a loooong way from him. DH is going to be his best man. DH told me he needs to find a way to get measured. I'm pretty sure the place they will use does not exsist here. So....do other tux shops charge to just measure?
