ARGH! Work/Cocktail attire- help please!
Permalink Closed

i am attending my company's sales meeting in June.

We are going to a very nice resort.  It is located in a very very hot area.  I work for a fun company in a very trendy/fashionable industry.  All of my coworkers are thin, glam and gorgeous (and then there's me...)

for two nights it says:  Cocktails 6:00-7:30, Dinner 7:30 (Cocktail/Dinner Attire)

wth does that mean?  i've talked to a few coworkers and they are going the slightly dressy/casual professional route

i went to a boutique last night and found this:

It was ADORABLE and amazing on... but it's Nanette Lepore (if you didn't notice) and the bustier was $275 and the pants were $250.  I'm not entirely sure I want to spend that much but I love these items.  And they could be used a multitude of ways separately.

Does anyone have any advice or input?  I am open to other suggestions!

ETA: i need TWO outfits.  the NL one is just one option...  please please more suggestions on other outfits!  preferably ones that could be broken down into other outfits for work or play

Very cute.

If you wanted to save a few $$, you might be able to fine a similar pair of pants a little cheaper.

Love the bustier!

I think this is the perfect occasion for a casual/dressy dress:

champagne & strawberries dresspint-full dress

prima ballerina dressemerald dress

I have this dress and love it. One of the great things about it is that you can really dress it up and also dress it down. It's really versatile and the fit is very flattering.

That NL outfit is soooo awesome!! If it looks ADORABLE like you said, and you can swing it, then you MUST get it.

As for outfit number 2, I agree with FP about a casual/dressy dress. Some other options:

while i love the dresses all of you posted- i was hoping for something more in the separate way so that i could break it down into a lot more outfits... hopefully using some pieces for spring/summer AND fall/winter...

keep 'em coming!

i think the first night you should wear the one you posted but with really dressy/dramatic earrings and the second night you should wear a dress (remember, you can always wear dresses in the fall/winter with knee high boots and a chunky sweater).

true true....

its funny b/c when all the spring stuff came out i was all about dresses... i think i kind of over-did it for myself on the dresses.

i'm going shopping with nicoley013 on monday and i'm sure we'll hit anthro... maybe she can help me choose a dress that i could use in both seasons.  i'm trying to be smarter about my buying in that respect.

and as for the NL bustier.  do we think that i could do that with red bottoms?  either pants or a skirt?  or would that look silly?

i really want to justify the $275 price tag on that bad boy.  next to my DVF dress- that will be the most i've ever spent on an item...

I like the NL outfit a lot, and think both pieces are versatile, if you can afford them.  You could buy the pants and see if you can get the bustier copied somewhere for cheaper if you are worried about price.  Also,  I think the bustier would look very cute with a black party skirt, pointy heels, and dangly earrings.  throw a colorful cardi or wrap on for when it gets colder.

DC Shopper:  thanks for your advice.  the bustier is Navy and Cream- so i'm sure that a black skirt would work?  i've always understood that black & navy combos are a no no... but maybe i'm wrong?
