Wavy/Curly Haired Girls

Girls w/naturally wavy/curly hair - I need your help!!  I have naturally wavy hair.  If I wear my hair wavy, I wash & condition it, then i scruch the waves w/a towel, apply mousse, scrunch some more and I'm done.  Lately, my hair has been so crunchy when I do this, I can't stand it!  I don't like hard hair.  I use Suave mousse, just because I haven't found anything better, but I haven't really tried.  I like my waves to be as wavy as possible.

ETA:  I should also mention that I just switched shampoo/conditioner.  I use Back to Basics, and I always used Pomegrante/Peach which is for dry hair and restores moisture.  Recently I switched the Raspberry/Almond, which is just for color treated hair.  Maybe that's part of the issue?

What do you girls do to enhance your waves/curls w/out getting crunchy hair?

I just put conditioner in my hair after towel-drying it. After trying everything on earth, I totally swear by this.

I have a spray-in gel by Matrix: that I just squirt in my hand and scrunch in my hair (after twisting it up in a towel-turban thing) and it gives my hair just enough hold that it stays wavy, and it's not very crunchy

Do you use a hairdryer too?  I use whatever gel product I have laying around then just dry the roots on low while scrunching my hair.  If I let it air-dry its crunchy.

Hmm, no I always let it air-dry.  I think I'll dry to blow dry this weekend and see what happens!  Thanks!

Anyone else have any tips?

Have you tried this?

PHYTO - Phytodefrisant, Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm - 3.3 fl oz

I use it every day, sometimes I air dry, sometimes I don't, and it smoothes out any frizz and never leaves my hair crunchy.  It is a miracle in a tube.

Nope, I've never tried the Phytodefrisant JJ, but does it actually help activate curls or does it just take away frizz?  I need something that helps my curls curl if that makes sense!

Hmmm...I'm not sure if it activates curls.  I used to mix a little frizz ease gel with phyto back when I wanted my hair curlier.  That really worked, and gave me serious corkscrew curls.  No crunchy-ness either.

Hmm, so that Frizz Ease stuff worked well for curls?

I have tried a lot of the frizz ease products, and the only one I liked (loved actually) was the gel.  I hate all the silicone products, they just make my hair greasy

Glad it worked for you, Choo!

Shopchicago, I use Pantene Sleek and Shine. It's cheap and works better than anything else I've tried.

I use this:

Beyond The Zone Noodle Head Curl Maker

I read about it on MUA awhile back and bought it and seriously - it's the best stuff I've ever used. It costs about $3 (I think) at Sally's. That's the only place I know to find it. I use it on my hair after I take it out of the towel (a little bit goes a long way) and I work it in as thoroughly as I can, scrunching as I work. I let my hair air dry and it has beautiful waves. The next day I just spritz my hair with water and scrunch and it's good to go again and again and again.

It's definitely worth a try for such a cheap price. Oh and btw, I've used this same product on some of my friends who have stick straight hair and it works to give gorgeous waves on them also.

I use Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious Curl Creme and it is unbelievably wonderful for styling curls. I usually apply it after I shampoo/condition.

Not Renee, but you can get Bumble & Bumble products at Blue Mercury on Halsted or at Sine Qua Non salons in Chicago.

A ton. Like the size of two chicken nuggets (what a strange unit of measurment). I also have a ton of hair, though. Basically so it feels totally saturated. A little more than I use when washing.
