Grad School Interview Help!
Permalink Closed

I have an interview for business school this Friday. I have been preparing, but wondered if anyone had any advice?? Specifically, what are the major topics that are usually covered in the interview, and maybe some pointers. I usually get nervous and tend to babble incoherently which I know is awful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

i just saw this...

the most important thing is to be able to walk them through your resume and present a clear picture in terms of what your goals are, what you hope to accomplish by going to bschool, how your work & extra currics. have helped with this goal, and why "x" school is the most perfect place for you. the interviewer is not going to have access to your application, they'll just have your resume so it's up to you to make all the pieces fit together in light of your short term/long term goals. for my interviews i pretty much just stuck to talking about my short term goals b/c it was easier to focus on them, and i knew it would keep me from babbling.

be prepared to talk about leadership and how you've demonstrated it either in your work experience or your extra currics. also be prepared to discuss a challenge/failure whatever. it's pretty much the standard q people always asks but it's good to have a prepared answer and be able to spin it into a learning experience/something positive.

lastly be prepared to talk about the school. "fit" is really important in general and some schools place a ton of emphasis on it. really be able to explain why you want to go to that particular school and essentially make it seem like your life will not go in if your don't. n/s where you're interviewing, but in general my feeling is that with the top 3 you can kind of just slide on it, b/c they obvs know they're top 3. but with other schools, this is extremely important and they don't want to be viewed as "back-ups."  look at the website and try and pick out stuff you're interested like classes or programs.  the more specific you can get the better

hth! let me know if you have any other questions.
