What to wear to a wedding next weekend?
Permalink Closed

I have a wedding to go to next weekend in DC.  It's at 5pm at a church with a reception to follow.  There's no mention on the invitation of what the dress code is, but I've talked to a bridesmaid and she said most everyone is wearing a sundress of sorts.  Sooooo...what do I wear?  I have this:

<--I'd wear this with a sweater over it in the church.

Or this:<--with maybe a brown pashmina or something in the church

Which one?  And what shoes?  I'm thinking of getting the JS Amys in platinum...would those work with the coral dress?  Help me figure out what to do here.  Or do I just start from scratch and wear something different?  I have other options.

Oh, and does DH wear a suit, or khakis with a jacket and tie?  I'm so bad at weddings.

That first dress looks so fabulously fantastic on you - I vote for that one. Also, hubby should probably wear a suit. Better to be a little over-dressed than under. Have fun!

I love the second dress, it looks fabulous on you!  and i like the idea of a brown pashmina for church.  Thats my vote! and i think the sandals you have on in the photo look great with the dress, but im picturing the JS barbs to look good as well.

I love the second one! I would be happy to have you as a guest at my wedding dressed like that!

I the second dress. I think it would look great with the JS Amys in platinum.

I like 2 but I think 1 would look great with the JS shoes in platinum.

I'd go with number 2. It looks great on you and is a little dressier without being too dressy. I'd fear being underdressed in the first one.

I like number one. The cut is very flattering and it's so pretty on you! It's also more of a sundress.

I like #2 with the pashmina and the bronze shoes.

I think DH should wear a suit. Better to err on the side of slightly overdressed. He can take off his jacket if he feels too formal at the reception.

I like the coral dress, with the bronze shoes better. I'm not so sure about the js platinum pumps with it. I think the bronzey gold tone goes better with coral, than the platinum silvery tone. But that's my opinion. I guess I would have to see it together.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that second dress on you. JS shoes might be a fun accessory for the dress.

While both look great on you, I have to agree with the majority. I say go with number 2, because you can blend in to whatever people are wearing.

I actually really love both dresses on you!  I would go with #2 in this case though, since #1 would probably work better for a morning wedding.

I would also actually stay away from the JS shoes with #2 - it sounds a little Marilyn Monroe Costume with the style of the dress for me.

SOOOOOOO, Coral dress, bronze heels, brown pashmina .

IMO it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed, plus I LOVE that coral dress on you, so I would opt for the second outfit. I don't know about the Amy's though. I think they are too chunky/clunky for a wedding, no matter how casual. I like the bronze shoes you have with the dress, and a brown pashmina would be perfect. What clutch are you bringing? Bronze? Ivory? Maybe a multicolor beaded clutch would be great to bring a bit of zazz into the whole thing...

I think DH should wear a suit. Better to err on the side of slightly overdressed. He can take off his jacket if he feels too formal at the reception.

ITA. I am trying to remember any weddings where my DH *didn't* wear a suit...and I don't recall any. We both like to get dressed up though, so he loves to break out a suit for fancier / more formal occasions.

Alrighty girls, coral it is!  And I'll be wearing my bronze heels instead of the Amy shoes.  The Amy shoes may be going back...they may have been a *bit* of an impulse buy because it said only three were left in my size.  But we'll have to see.

DH will wear a suit.

I have no idea what kind of clutch to bring and I need to find a brown pashmina now and some jewelry.  Yikes!  I have some shopping to do this weekend!!!

I really like atlgirl's idea about a beaded clutch.  I think that would most definitely pull it all together for a fabulous look.
