I just recently sold my Sex and the City collecters set:

The dvd set comes inside a plexi glass box, well the person who bought it received the dvd but sent me this message:

***Hi. My Sex and the City Gift collectors set arrived today. However, the clear protective case is severly cracked. Since I am giving this as a gift is there any chance you have a new one? If not, is there something else we can work out to compensate for the replacement I have to buy? I cannot give it as a gift with such a big crack on it. Thank you for handling this matter. *****

Now the dvd set was sent priority mail, and packaged in a bubbled, shipping envelope. My friend said I should have made sure at the time of shipping to have informed the post office that the item was fragil, and it had to been damaged at the time of shipping. My question is what do I do?? I was thinking of sending her a 5 dollar gift card, or what is appropriate to resolve this matter. All help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'd maybe refund her shipping costs, but that's all.  I have the collectors set too, and don't think that the plastic case is that necessary.  She could toss it and give it in the pink velour binder only, and the person receiving the gift would be none the wiser!

I would refund her $10 or something like that, and suggest she give it as Elle suggested.

Personally, I NEVER send anything I sell on ebay uninsured. It's cheap to insure the item (usually no more than $1.30), the buyer pays for the insurance, and it covers you in situations like this.  UPS shipping automatically includes insurance as well.  Insurance is always a requirment with my auctions - I refuse to ship without it.

surprisingly enough, I've never had anyone report damage or loss back to me... hmmmm....

The customer had actually paid three dollars of insurance, how does the insurance work?
