so sophie's post about matching got me thinking.  i was just at NM this weekend and two of my friends thought i should get these shoes that were the same print and pattern as a bag i recently bought (the gucci medium chain link hobo in the chocolate guccisima print).  the shoes were these cute mules w/ a medium heel w/ the same print and hardware detail (sorry couldn't find any pics).  my friends were like you already have the bag, get the shoes!  but i thought wouldn't that be too matchy matchy?  so i didn't get them.  what do you all think?  did i make the right decision by passing on the shoes?

IMO there is nothing wrong if your shoes and purse are the same color, but if it is an obvious monogram print, or any floral print, and they match, then it is a bit overboard. I think the chocolate guccisima is pretty subtle though??

I think it's perfectly acceptable to match purse to shoes, even in the same print (just saw this look in a great DKNY ad, but the dress and purse were perfect matches, same prints too!).

If you do it all the time, everyday then I think you've gone overboard.  But for a once in a while thing I think it's very refreshing and cute.  With the Gucci look you could play up the whole label-glamour-whore kinda thing (that's meant to be in a good way, not a cheesy-way; you know there's always that fine line...).  You live in Cali, right?  I think you could definately get away with the look

oh I think it's wayyyy too matchy to have shoes and purse that look like they were made with each other. I don't even like to match the colors, I'd feel ridiculous going out with those two that, although perhaps are wonderful individually, look so similar. It reminds me of my grandma and it looks like you put a whole lot (too much) of thought into your outfit... intsead of just being naturally stylish :)

I am very anti-matching, so I am a bit biased.  I think you did the right thing by not buying them.  For some reason to me, matching a logo would be even more matchy than matching a color, but maybe I am crazy or imagining the shoes incorrectly.

Personally, I'd never buy two things in the same print/exact color/logo to wear in the same outfit. I've also never really blinked an eye at a girl who puts matching labels together...it feels too "hi I'm an advertisment for ________"

I do think the mules would be gorgeous with other handbags and all, but not together with your hobo.

I totally get the matchy matchy thing can be much at times but I agree with Drew.  I think it's refreshing to do the exact match shoe/bag thing.  Also I think it does have a grandma aspect to it but even that can be cute IMO.  That said I think you should go back and get the shoes if you like the shoes sepratly as well as with the purse.  Hey maybe I'll see at the Neiman on Wilshire this weekend when I'm picking up my matchy matchy's!!

i really don't like logo matching. when i see people wearing matching logo-y stuff it just seems like they are making it a point to prove how fabulous they are. which i think is kind of lame.

Unless you'd wear the shoes on their own without the purse, then I wouldn't get them.  I'm not a big fan of shoes and purses being the same print.  It just seems too over the top for me.  So if the shoes are fabulous and you'd wear them with a different purse, then you did the right thing.

is it the canvas with the print or leather? I think the canvas would be too matchy, but if it's the leather with just the texture, you can barely even notice it so it might work...
