I'm moving and I have a fairly fabulous accoustic guitar with a soft case. I'm already going to have two pieces of luggage and a carry on for the plane ride.
How can I get my guitar to my new location? Would it be insanely expensive to get the airline to tag it?
The UPS website said it wouldn't ship guitars...I don't know what to do! TIA
Ask the airline if they will ship items as cargo or do a google search on "(airline name) cargo".
When my DH moved here, he had all his guitars and amps shipped as cargo. Essentially, the guitar would be held by the airline until they have extra space on a flight for additional cargo. It can take a few weeks, but is way cheaper than checking an additional item.
Or you could try another shipping service. Guitars are certainly shipped all of the world all the time, so someone must be doing it. How lame that UPS says they don't ship them.
I have shipped about 5 guitars though UPS - I have no idea why it says it won't ship them. As a matter of fact I let them pack them too & they had guitar boxes specifically.....
Also it seems like it was like $50-60 total to have them pack & ship it..maybe you should call a local UPS Retail store & ask?
