so the first part of my newport-news order from last week arrived this afternoon (some of the items are backordered), and since there was some interest amongst the ranks about how some of the items fit/feel/etc in real life, i'm posting a review.
first, this top:
it's a thin material but not see-through, pretty comfortable. it doesn't fall on me nearly as nicely as it does in the web photo, as you can see here:
it's also the same exact color as my skin-tone, which is kind of a turn-off.
verdict: this top would probably be really cute on a lot of people here, but on me and for my wardrobe, it's a no. going back.
next, this top:
i ordered the smallest size they have, not expecting it to be skin-tight, but not expecting it to be as loose as it is. the crochet is pretty wide-set, so you definitely have to wear a tank/cami under it or you'll see a lot of skin through it (i was too lazy to put my tank on again after i discovered this, so forgive the photo).
the colors are pretty. overall, i feel like i would end up getting several pulls in the crochet just from my bra and putting it over my head more than a few times.
verdict: not worth $39 to me, so it's going back.
next up, this top:
this fits me *nothing* like in the photo - maybe if i had ordered the medium instead of the small i would have gotten the looser look. i also didn't notice the tie in the bag until after i had already taken the photo.
the fabric is soft and comfy. the color is more rust and less burgundy in person. it's got a kind of "maid marion" vibe about it and despite the fact that it looks nothing like it should, i like it.
verdict: it's a keeper.
next, this sweatshirt:
all i can say is i LOVE this. i've been looking for a grey sweatshirt that isn't the traditional crew-neck or hoodie and this is exactly it. love it.
verdict: i will live in this.
last, and definitely least, the denim gauchos. now, i was not even going to TAKE a photo of myself in these because they are quite possibly the least flattering pants i have ever had on my body, but i thought it would be a good opportunity to show how the wrong pair of pants can make a pretty self-confident, fairly tall and in decent shape, acceptor of her booty woman recoil in horror at the frumpy, stumpy reflection staring back at her.
the gauchos on the website, looking quite cute if i do say so myself...
in person the denim has a weird green undertone. they are very high waisted and the pockets are aligned in a weird way.
verdict: they win the prize for the least flattering pants on the market this spring.
ta-da!
(i swear my lower half does not really look like this!)
and that's all she wrote. :)

Ok, I have seen you in person and I know your hips/thighs look about 30 pounds lighter IRL. Those gauchos are bad! I love that rust colored top on you. Very flattering and different.
Was the sweatshirt TTS? The smallest they have is a S and I wonder if that would be too big.
i'm wearing the small. it's kind of loose on me, but not boxy. comfortable loose. i normally wear a small/x-small in tops from all the usual stores (36A bust) if that helps!

Yeah, I'd say nix the gauchos. That's so weird--they look NOTHING like the NN pic.
And actually, I think that first top looks amazing on you. It looks really soft and I think it's really flattering on you. And I think the crochet top looks really cute too. I'd vote to keep them both. Both other shirts you're keeping are really cute. Nice haul!
#1- glad you posted cause I've been eyeing it. do you think it would work a size up? I feel like its supposed to be loose, but thats not tight on you, so a M might be too lose...
Thanks for the review, smash. Sorry that some things didn't work out for you, but you looked pretty cute in MOST of them. And yes - 86 the gauchos. Love this top:

Those gouchos are nastay! What a sick green color and obviously not a good cut. That sweatshirt looks so comfy though! Don't you just love it when you find something and know you will get lots of wear out of it?!!
Thank you for posting the picture of the gauchos and showing me that even adorable you can look bad in pants sometimes. Those pants have to be the worst cut pants ever. I love the rust color top and the sweatshirt.
