Tummy tuck

Ok, here's the deal.  I am  seriously considering getting a tummy tuck.  My husband and I were talking about it today and we agreed I should look into it.  We're due to get a very small inheritence from his grandmother (under $10,000) and this is something my husband says I deserve.

My stomach looks really bad-and I mean REALLY bad.  Eleven years ago, when my first son was born, I had to have a C-section-not the normal "bikini cut" kind but instead, I had to have an emergency c-section where they cut my stomach up and down from the pubic bone to the navel.  I have also had two more c-sections since.  So three up and down c-sections later, I am realizing that I am never going to be able to get my stomach to look even decent unless I have this done.

Here are my questions:

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knowledge of tummy tucks or any advice on this matter?

Would you do this if you were me?

i have not had this done, but my mom had 3 C-sections and she has found it IMPOSSIBLE to get her stomach in shape.  It is something she is very self conscious about because there is a lot of extra skin.  So I say go for it if it will make you more confident and accepting of your body- but make sure you talk to the best doctors and others that have had it done for referrals.

I think if you want it and have the $ you should look into it. I would schedule a consultation. Ask a ton of questions, see what they can do for you, and then make your decision. It never hurts to consult a few Dr.'s and decide what and who you like better.

I have this scar too from a surgery a few years ago.  I really don't think there's any way to recover a toned stomach after this.  For me at least.  I don't have any kids yet but I'm def. having a tummy tuck after I have a kid or two.

my sister had this done earlier this year. she had a c-section (bikini cut, though), and after having her twins, almost a year later was still have problems losing the weight she gained. if you have any specific questions i can email her about it.

to be honest, though, i really don't notice a difference from when she had this done, but she is overweight to begin with. i think if you are at your target weight (or close to it), it would probably be beneficial. i think she was kind of disappointed, because i think she was expecting it to be an all-encompassing (sic?) get skinny procedure. (and i'm not saying that's what this is for you)

what i do remember is that she couldn't shower for a long time. (almost two weeks!?) she had to sponge bathe for that time. also, her insurance covered it!

My mother is a anesthesiologist and most of the surgeries she works on is  plastic/reconstructive surgery. These are a few suggestions she had.

Do they have privileges to preform surgeries in hospitals?

The doctor may be preforming the surgery in an outpatient facility or office because they do not have privileges at an accredited hospital. Before a doctor is given privileges at a hospital their experiences and training has been reviewed.

Where the surgery will be preformed?

If it is in an outpatient facility ask if they are accredited. Not all states require outpatient facilities to be accredited. The facility may volunteer to be accredited by American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities. This means they have met strict requirements and have a high standard of care.

Are certified by the American board of Plastic Surgery?

Make sure you know what board they are certified for and that is plastic surgery.

Of course you ask them how many types of surgeries they have preformed. Ask how much the surgery will cost. If you will need to come back for more surgeries to receive your desired effect.

Just ask as many questions as you need to to feel comfortable. If something doesn't feel right to you then it probably isn't - go w/ you gut (no pun intended).

Good luck!!!

Thank you all so much for responding!  There is a lot of food for thought here.  I have a lot of things to think about before I jump into this.  Thanks so much!
