1st time in NYC-what to wear?
Permalink Closed

Hey girls...

My best friend and I are going to NYC for the 1st time (April 7-11) to celebrate my b'day. I can't wait but I"m at a loss for what to wear.  We plan to do things like shop, have drinks in the evening at different places, and catch a Broadway show. Any ideas?

Some things I own that I plan on taking:

  1. J jeans in cigarette style, (black)

  2. Black capri leggings

  3. Jessica Simpson "barb" pumps

  4. Single Kimono dress

  5. Great pair of vintage cowboy boots (brown)

What else? What can I wear those items with? Kind of random I know, but I could use some help...

What a perfect birthday present...you'll have tons of fun!

You can't go wrong with jeans and a cute top.  As much as I love wearing heels, since I've moved here I have started to favor comfortable shoes.  I say bring at least one pair of sneakers to wear during the day because you'll do a TON of walking.  Save the heels for going out at night.  So pack some outfits that will look cute with your comfy shoes as well as heels if you change into them later.

A dress or skirt is perfect for drinks and a show.  You might bring a layering piece like a light cardigan or jacket depending on the weather it's cold here now.

I second the comfortable shoes. It is definitely a walking city and you won't want to kill your feet.

I was visiting family in the south a few weeks ago and some distant relatives were going on and on about how they couldn't believe I was wearing jeans because I'm a New York City girl. I thought that was very funny, since people wear jeans pretty much everywhere in the city. You can never go wrong with trendy jeans, a cute top and heels for dinner, drinks, etc.

Definitely check the weather forecast before you go, and pack a bit for both warm and cold regardless. Mid-April can be unpredictable weather-wise.
