We got invited to a 50th surprise birthday party by our friends. I am at a loss. The invite said to wear black and that no presents were to be given. "Our presence is gift enough". Now, I get it. The two women (his wife and her friend) giving it basically told me that they think it silly since a 50 year old man pretty much what he want. What do you really give a 50 year old man? Is it really appropriate to show up empty handed? Should we be getting something? And if so, what DO you give a 50 year old man? I feel that when I am 50 I will have the answers to all of life's questions, but for now I am completely confused (that's what I get for having friends that are waaaaay older than us). Please help.
how about a good bottle of liquor? he has no hobbies or interests? if he was "into" something, you could get him tickets to something related or a GC for him to buy things for his hobby... does he like to golf? maybe a bottle of booze and some golf balls?

HA! My stepdad had a surprise 50th birthday party last month, and I think EVERYONE got him booze. The guy must have gotten 20 bottles of Scotch, LOL! But men are easy to please. You might also consider a giftcard to a restaurant,or golf course or something like that, too.
