At my dr.'s office it clearly states if you are 15 minutes late you have to reschedule.
I got to my appt. perfect timeing, 10 minutes early... and did not get seen until 40 minutes after my scheduled appt time!
How annoying!

I know how annoying this is, but I have to defend the drs. So many people call for an appointment w/ one problem and then when they get in there they list off 10 more. "Well, now that I am here I have X problem and x problem and x problem."

I totally understand that I will have to wait x amount of time to be seen, i dont care about that, because i do understand how that works with patients etc... I just think its funny that they can post a sign saying you have to reschedule your appt if your 15minutes late, meanwhile i had to wait 40 minutes to be seen. lol Just seems humourous to me

I blame it on the pregnant people. Since they have to go so often they always work them in even though I have to make an appt 6 months in advance. While I understand that, I still feel like it's another thing I have to suck up because I just want my birth control.

my longest wait was about 2.5 hours, too. for an orthopedic surgeon to do a routine checkup on the surgery he had done a month before, so not like anything out of the ordinary. and it wasn't an HMO doc either. i think it's just the state of our medical system these days.

Damn those preggos.

I HATE waiting at the doctors office. I don't really have doctor-anxiety, but the longer I sit in the waiting room, the more nervous I get and I work myself all up into a tizzy.
I make all my appointments with the NP now - their schedules are usually much more open, so not only do you have your choice of appointment times (even on short notice), but they also take the time to answer all your questions instead of kicking you out of the office like most docs do. And they tend to be more open about discussing symptoms/causes/treatment options with you instead of throwing a prescription in your face.

I do this too! I adore nurse practitioners. I use them for anything I can. I feel like they are actually willing to spend more than 5 minutes with you, too.
That said, the 2.5 hour wait I had that time was for an appt. with a NP.

LOL - I didn't mean it that way! Sorry!
To add to this I am also one of those people that never gets sick but when I do I want to see my GP like in an hour. So I'm guilty of this on the regular doctor front. I guess for the people who actually make appts to go in for a physical or whatnot. I have a double standard I tell ya!

LOL - if it makes you feel better, when I was preggers I had to wait forever too, it drove me nuts! One time my OB made me wait for 30 min and he's like, "Sorry you had to wait so long" and I was like, "Umm, actually this is the fastest you've ever seen me"

nurse practioners are the greatest! my gyno doc is actually a np, and she's the awesomest. she truly does always answer any of my questions, the longest part of my appointments are actually her and i sitting in her office just talking about health care stuff. before i started seeing her, i did have longer waits but always figured it was just a good way to relax. i can't begin to tell you all how many naps ive had on the exam table while waiting for the doc to show up. i always fall asleep waiting there...really good for the blood pressure measurement.

Last time I was at the doctor's office, she made me wait 1+ hrs.. I finally lost it when all these pregnant women who came in AFTER me kept getting ushered into "the door" .. so I threw a fit and prob scared all the women! The receptionist had the nerve to tell me it was "ultrasound day" and I was like well why would you schedule me on ultrasound day then if I just wanted a check-up?!!! Uuurrggh...

my ob/gyn has her own practice and she only works two days a week..so when i schedule my yearly exam, i usually have to call at least 6 months in advance. but when making my ob appts, it's smooth sailing and i usually get whenever i want
that said, when i went to have an ultrasound at the hospital, i had to wait two and a half hours.
