My best friend is having her babyshower in a few months. This is her first baby, and she has not registered yet. Any suggestions on the type of things that she needs to get, or are your favorites. And also a great gift Idea so I can get her something special. I was thinking a digi camere, since they do not have one yet.
My friend did the cutest thing. She made a "cake" with diapers. It was three tiers big. She taped them together into long strips that she could roll to make the different sized tiers. Then she decorated the cake with many small gifts tied/taped to the layers of cake. It was topped with a pair of baby Jordans. It was practical and cute! I hope I did it justice with my description.
Okay, here is a very special gift idea I have used in the past and always gets rave reviews (you can also tweak this for wedding showers too):
First, go to Costco. Right now they have a box of 12 or so nice quality, cardboard boxes, all nested together. They are square and they come in cute, plain colors. The set of boxes costs about $13.00.
Next, start shopping. The plan is to fill each box with something appropriate to each month of the year. You can spend a lot or a little. Here are some suggestions:
January-A "Baby New Year" outfit or a "Superbowl" outfit for the baby, or a gift certificate to babysit so mom and dad can GO to a New Years party or Superbowl party. Or if you want something less expensive, a stuffed snowman toy.
February-Something Valentine's Day related. A onsie with "my cutie" or "be mine" or something to that effect.
March-A little Leprachan toy or something green for the baby to wear for St. Patrick's Day.
April-Easter bunny ears, baby's first Easter basket, a bunny pacifier, etc.
May-A cute floral outfit (for girl) or a baseball outfit (for boy).
June-A beach bucket filled with baby sunscreen, and baby sunglasses.
July-Any red, white and blue outfit.
August-"Back to School' baby books (Karen Katz makes adorable baby books).
September-A "Labor Day" spa gift certifcate for mom.
October-Baby's first Halloween costume or Halloween bag.
Thank you so much for the ideas. I really want to do the "box for each month" idea. It is going to be difficult because she is not going to find out the sex. I also really like the cake. We may do that for the shower. I have an obsession with baby swings, so I really wanted to get one but I wasn't sure if they were still around, or if they had been replaced by something new and improved.
My idea isn't very exciting, but I've heard a lot of moms say how much they use onesies. My brother and his wife had a baby in December and they asked for a bunch of those when we came to visit. Congratulations to your friend!
You could also ask people to bring a favorite children's book. It's never too early to start reading to kids and teaching them to love stories.
