Wedding gifts

Okay, so one of my good friends from college is getting married in June in Jamaica.  At the beginning of April, I'm going to her wedding shower in Maryland.  How does the whole gift situation work?  I know I get them a gift for the shower, but do I also get them a wedding gift?  If so, since they're having a destination wedding, do I bring the gift to Jamaica with me, or do I send it to them ahead of time?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  She's the first of my friends to get married, and since DH and I eloped, I'm totally clueless on this subject.

I wouldn't worry about bringing a gift to Jamaica. From what I've seen, some people will buy two cheaper gifts and give one at the shower and one at the wedding. While others will just buy one bigger gift and give it at the shower.

HTH!

Alot of times if people are having a shower, they register separately for shower and wedding.  If they didn't do that, I'd get 2 smaller gifts from their wedding registry (one for shower and one for wedding).  If possible, I'd send the wedding gift to them at home either before or after the wedding - FH and I are getting married in a different state than we live in and we're hoping people will send them to us at home so we don't have to worry about transporting a ton gifts home with us.

I agree with this... it's easier on everyone that way, and I doubt they'll be opening presents while they're on location.  And just a little something for the wedding I think is fine, too... I imagine most folks hosting a destination wedding don't expect expensive gifts, since their guests are having to lay out $$$ to come to the event in the first place.
