my sister and her boyfriend have two birds, a cockatiel and a cockatoo. both are babied and are just like little children. the cockatiel they have had for years and years and years and is such a brat. the cockatiel goes by the name of both budgie and wadi, and the cockatoo's name is coco. anyway...both are girls and are spoiled rotten. budgie, every once in a while, lays a couple of eggs. the bigger bird, coco has never done this, but they have had her for a shorter period of time. however...
coco apparently likes to snuggle with my sister while she is watching televsion. when my sister is curled up on the couch with a blanket the bird will come up and crawl under the blanket with her and go to sleep. so, coco did this the other day and apprently laid an egg while curled up under the blanket with my sister! my sister didn't feel anything or notice any strange noises (coco doesn't make much noise except for an almost purring coo) but when she got up to go to bed that night and put coco away in her cage, there was an egg that came rolling out of the blanket when she folded it up to put it away! the littler bird, wadi, had laid eggs just the other day and i guess coco was feeling left out so decided she wanted an egg as well. but she laid it on my sister!
i guess its a good thing that nothing gross or yucky comes out along with the egg. no after birth or anything like that. it could have been messy!
coco is a bad mother though, she ignores the egg completely. now, mind you, these are just unfertilized eggs so it's not like she's ignoring a baby, but still!
so, yep, coco laid an egg on my sister!

That's really funny! I heard a story on NPR awhile ago about this woman who had this ridiculous attachment to her bird. Anyway, the woman had spent a ton of time with the bird and the bird ended up laying an egg because it had bonded so much with the woman that it wanted to mate with her. No joke. I wonder if that's going on with your sister and the bird. It's almost like how women who hang out together all the time eventually get on the same period cycle--like the bird grows such an attachment and it gets the hormones going and whatnot and voila! an egg!
