I was at the mall this weekend and I saw a sign that Barney's Co-op is opening soon. Can someone enlighten me and tell me more?? It sounds kind of exciting.
There's one in Chicago near my place , and I've been there and couldn't tell you the difference between the regular Barney's and the co-op. The prices were full price. Maybe someone else can enlighten us?
Barney's Co-Op is where they sell all the less expensive designers like Juicy/Ella Moss/Marc by Marc Jacobs, etc. etc. as well as where all the deisgner denim is sold. All the stuff is full price, but still cheaper than the regular stuff at Barneys (Proenza Schouler, Jil Sander, etc. etc.).
All regular Barney's stores also have Co-Op sections. In NYC it's the 8th and I think the 9th floor too. In LA it's the 3rd floor.
I bought a bag from Barney's Co-op once, and they gave me this postcard with it, that talked about what Co-op is. It said it is their division which supports new artists and their designs. It said they are always looking for new designers to support through this program (co-op).
everybody pretty much summed up what it is. depending on where you live there's regular barney, barney's co-op, or a combo of both. of late i think they've been pushing the co-op by opening a lot of free standing co-op stores, probably b/c the price points are lower.
they usually carry a lot of contemporary designers. lots of denim, marc by marc jacobs, theory, dvf, and some smaller lines too (foley & corinna, mayle, travotta). it's one of my favorite stores, and i think they have really good sales. i've gotten 7's from there for $60 and a foley & corinna tank for $40 (marked down from $200+).
i love barney's.. and i love co-op. everyone pretty much said what it's about. i like honey have scored many amazing bargains there. i could do a lot of damage there. they sell a lot of contemporary designers that are harder to find too (like philip lim 3.1, mayle, development, cacherel, daryl k, lauren moffat, etc etc etc..). also look for co-op brand shoes and accessories!
OK, they apparently just opened one here and I had time to kill before meeting a friend for dinner so I went in. The store rocks! Although I had to force myself not to try anything on, cause I could have easily dropped like $1000 in there in under 20 minutes.
Choo--I've been dying to go to the new Barney's Co-op here and I'm glad to know that it's good. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the time. It's in Friendship Heights, right? I need to get on their mailing list post haste!!
Aurora--Where is the one in Tx opening? I'm not sure where you live, but I'm hoping your talking about Northpark or the Galleria in Dallas. I moved away from Ft Worth recently, but my inlaws live in Dallas and my parents in FW, so we go "home" all the time. If there's a co-op nearby, I'll have to check it out next time I'm there. Every time I go back to TX (especially Dallas), there are so many new stores, etc. to check out!

the one I went to was in Georgetown (next to news cafe and across from sephora/ kate spade). There might be one in FH too though- I know they just added a ton of new stores there (I'm so glad I moved out of that neighborhood -I'd be broke now!)
Are you guys serious? there is Barney Co-op and Intermix in G'town??? OMG. I'm so excited..I must make my way down there..
I know! I've been dying to go but my life is way too hectic these days. The Intermix has been open for about 6 months (at least). I keep telling people about it and then they go and tell me how fabulous it is! Maybe we should arrange a stylethread outing in Georgetown!
