Are you accident prone?
Permalink Closed

We were talking about this at work the other day- everyone sharing there most painful injuries-And mine, hands down was when I got burned at sixteen while working at a restraunt. I burned a good portion of the front of my thigh- 2nd degree and my lower ankle- 3rd degree.  Im sorry for those of you who are quesy, but the smell of your own flesh burning is something you never forget. To this day, excessive heat, fire, the smell of smoke all send me into a panic response. The pain was bad, of course when it happened, but nothing like the pain afterwords when the skin began to heal and the nerve endings repairing themselves... ok thats enough of a visual I think. Share...

i am accident prone...with fire/heat. i apparently never learned the "no...hot, don't touch" lesson when i was little. i have touched hot pots and pans so many many times that it doesn't even faze me anymore. my brain just doesn't seem to equate hot with hurt. the worse burn that ive ever gotten was when i tried to take a castiron skillet out of the oven...with my bare hands. yeah, it hurt real bad but i still haven't figure out not to touch hot stuff. i do it all the time.

but other than burns i haven't really ever been hurt or felt physical pain. this is sorta the reason why im afraid of falling and mentally can't do exercises with a step. like the one where you jump off and on of the step...i might fall and hurt myself, even if it is only three inches off the ground. i still might get hurt.

so i guess no...im not accident prone, except for the touching hot stuff thing.

Nothing like the burn...ouch!  I trip constantly, especially going up stairs.  I hate it because I always have scuffs on the toes of my shoes.

I don't know if it's that I'm accident prone or just clumsy, but I'm constantly tripping, bumping into things, falling down stairs, and dropping things. I've never seriously injured myself, but I've many bumps, bruises, and scrapes.

I am pretty clumsy.  My worst story is more embarassing than anything else - I was not feeling well and drove in to work.  After I parked my car, I cut through the parking garage, and conked my head on a low-hanging metal pipe.  It hit me right above my left eybrow.  Apparently, it broke all kinds of blood vessels, so when I got to work everyone freaked out because my whole upper eyelid/forehead was purple.  I had no idea why they were aghast until I went into the ladies room.  I was mortified.

Umm, yeah.  So much so that growing up my family nicknamed me, "Klutz."  I have been told on several occasions that when I bump into walls, door frames, tables, etc. that I say, "Excuse me."  So, I guess I'm a polite klutz.

I am terribly accident prone. One of the reasons I love this site is because I can live vicariously through you girls and your fabulous heels. I cannot wear them. I have broken my ankle (same bone) twice due to heel wearing. I call it my hangover for life, because the first time I was wearing high heels clogs and was muy wasted! My last doctor told me I would have pain for the rest of my life and that I should never wear heels. Shoe shopping can be depressing, especially since I am short and love, love, love wearing heels. Sometimes I think I should get a Lil' Rascal just so I can wear heels.

Both times I was in a cast, I managed to fall often, many times in public.

Two years ago, I was attempting to step over a puddle at a train station so as not to get my pant cuffs wet and I fell into the puddle and badly bruised my tail bone. So my cuffs were pretty dry but my ass was soaked and I could not sit comfortably for a couple of weeks.

Those are just a few. But here is one that happened to my equally accident prone guy friend: He was filing at work and somehow managed to get a really bad paper cut in his eye! He had to go to the doctor, and the doctor said he could lose his eye if he didn't treat it properly. Who knew you should wear eye-goggles to file?

Are you kidding me? you are talking to the girl that just had 3 stitches from slicing potatoes!

My second worst "stupid" injury was that in 1996 I dropped a 2 1/2 barrel curling iron (it was the thing then) that had been on all day on my leg. YES MY LEG. It stuck to my leg & I had 2nd degree burns. I still have quite a scar because I wouldn't admit it was as serious as it was & 'self' medicated myself.

I also fall spontaneously on a regular basis. 3 times in my home that i remember in the past 2 year, and once on ice on my sidewalk, once on ice the same day at a thrift shop.

What a klutz!!!!!!!!

Those of you who are accident prone , I am right there with you. Although, now that I am older the injuries are less severe and consist of bruises, cuts etc... that I rarely have any idea how I got! But, when i was a teenager I was a mess- along with my burn, I dropped a cuisenart blade on the top of my foot while emptying the dishwasher and broke my nose so many times playing sports that I had to have surgery just to breath normally on the right side again! Not exactly a graceful one...

Extremely.  I have had so many injuries from my clumsiness.  I've fallen down steps and given myself whiplash. I hurt my back a year ago when I was climbing around like a monkey in our storage room and fell through a glasstop coffee table. I had stitches in my chin from a drunken clumsy moment.

I fall down (and up) steps on a regular basis. Last night, when I was out, I wiped out in the middle of an intersection in Philly.  I'd like to blame in it on being drunk, but sadly, we were on our way to the bar and the only thing I had had all evening was coffee.

It's funny b/c if you put me on a dance floor or a on a stage, I can dance without a problem and not trip over myself, but if I'm just walking around irl, I have issues putting one foot in front of the other without wiping out.

I am super klutzy too. Once I was carrying a load of laundry down the stairs and I missed a step, skidded my foot across the carpeted stair giving the bottom of my foot rugburn and tumbled down the rest of the stairs on my butt. It hurt so much but I was too embarrassed to tell anyone.

Last night on the way to the pub, I (foolishly wore heels) slipped on some ice, grabbed the bf for support and dragged him down on top of me. Thusly, he has banned me from wearing heels out until atleast May.

I am always hurting myself. Furniture seems to get in my way. I am always banging into something, I swear...I am SO bruised most of the time that someone would think I have been abused.

I also burn myself but that is my own stupidity, I forget and grab things while forgetting the old Ov Glove. Or I manage to touch the oven with the exposed wrist skin.

I am a klutz.
