Holy hell! This show just gets better and better!

Did anyone else notice that the General holding the picture in the truck with Sayid was Kate's dad?  I'm pretty sure it was him (not 100% positive, though).

And the pictures that showed up when the timer counted down, what were they...I saw a bird and an arrow, but couldn't make out the rest.

My head is swimming with info. I'll have to post again when I'm more coherent and after I absorb more information.

ETA:  About Henry Gale. Wasn't that Dorothy's uncle's name in The Wizard of Oz? And the wizard came to Oz from a balloon.   I think that Henry Gale is full o' shit. He's definitely an Other.

This was such an interesting episode.  I've been reading on a Lost board and they mentioned all those things, Nyla.  You are so quick to notice that that was Kate's dad!  I have to read the boards to figure out all the little quirks .  Henry Gale was Dorothy's aunt in the Wizard of Oz.  I think maybe this is another way to poke fun at Lost nerds--last week Hurley said the thing about "another time" and maybe the Wizard of Oz thing pokes fun at dream theories.  Just a thought.  What was up with the hieroglyrphics (sp?)?  Does the button do stuff or not?  Do you think something happened or was is the button just a load of BS?  Ahhhh, the suspense!  And I'm dying to know what happened to Claire when they kidnapped her.  Guess we'll find out in two weeks.

I think that was Kate's dad in the truck -- the picture he was holding in his hand definitely looked like a young Kate. In the episode where Kate blew up her stepfather's home, didn't they show Sayid being arrested on TV behind her real father in his army office?

It looked like hieroglyphics to me too when the numbers countdown was running out. Seriously, if I had Tivo I would look at that in slow-mo and try to look up the hieroglyphics!

I love Sayid.

I loved last night's episode!  I think Henry is definitely an Other, and that he's going to escape because Jack isn't going to let Sayid and Locke keep him tied up in the armory. They should have told one of the Tailies about Henry.  The Tailies killed some Others before and examined them afterwards.  A Tailie would have known to check Henry's clothes to see if they had labels or not.  None of the Others the Tailies killed had labels in their clothes.

I used to like Sawyer, he was kind of the fun bad boy. But now I think he's just a jackass.  I love frogs, so I didn't like it when he killed the tree frog!  I hope it was poisonous.

I was kind of confused about the timer hitting zero.  When the hieroglyphics started showing up, the timer still reset to 108 minutes after Locke typed in the numbers.  So, does something only happen if the timer hits 0 and all the hieroglyphics show up? Or did something happen and we just didn't see it?

I can't wait for the next episode!  I think the Others did something to Aaron before he was born.

I had kinda mixed feeling on last night's show.  It was pretty good and all, but I'm getting really tired of them constantly bringing up new things and just knowing that they're not going to get resolved.  I feel like the producers/writers are now just throwing things out there to string along the fans but without any real purpose.

I dunno.

I love the backstories still.  Sayid's was great.  Nice catch on Kate's dad--I totally didn't see that, but then again I never seem to catch those.

Anyway, the other picture I saw in the clock was a rocket of sorts.  I have no idea what that's all about.

overall, a good ep. i love sayid. a few thoughts -

i did catch that it was kate's dad in the truck and a pic of kate when she was younger - although that is actually her step-dad since she blew up her real dad (as i recall, the fact that he turned out to be her real dad was the reason she blew him up).

"henry" definitely does seem like an other - i was skeptical, but after that look he gave sayid at the end, i am certain that face was saying "i beat you."

sawyer really is turning into a complete a-hole. i like it. everyone was getting a bit too milquetoast for my liking.

by the way, i spent most of the ep trying to figure out the two guys who had cameos (the general and henry) - i recognized them both but couldn't place them. finally figured out that the general was "brother justin" from the show carnivale and henry was "zep" from SAW. not all that interesting - but not being able to place actors i've seen bugs me!

here's a shot of the timer:

next week's episode looks fantastic!

yes, good call -- that was indeed her real father she blew up. i'd forgotten.

i agree henry seems like he's an other, and that look he gave sayid was very much an "i won" look. i need to watch the wizard of oz again, or try looking up info about that book. i remember there being a hot air balloon as dorothy et al. were leaving oz, but not much besides that...

eta: i checked imdb for confirmation on the name of dorothy's uncle in the wizard of oz -- he was named henry, but he's listed as "uncle henry," not "henry gale." i guess we can assume his last name was gale because hers was. one funny thing i found: first i googled "henry gale" and found the cast list for a regional production of oz, and one of the actors in it was named henry gale.

about Kate's dad, I was trying to recognize him, but I didn't realize it was her dad until the end when he pulled out her picture.  Argh, every time I watch and I happen to recognize an actor, I can't decide if I recognize him from a previous Lost or just from another role elsewhere.

I kept trying to recognize Henry Gale from someone else's flashback, but he's just a familiar actor I suppose.  I was disappointed with Sayid.  But I hope that they do not let this guy escape.  I also kept thinking that if he is an "other" that the rest could probably come and rescue him if they pleased if they have so much power....so it will be interesting to see what becomes of him.

Can't wait to see Claire's memories revealed.  Damn, they make us wait a long time!

Oh, and while I thought the whole tree frog side story was a waste of time, I was bummed that Sawyer had to squish him.  What a turd.

I never ever catch any of the little neat things in the episodes!

Sad news-Lost is a rerun next week, they're replaying the pilot from season one :(

thanks for posting the pic of the counter--i am so slow i didn't realize that they were hieroglyphics, i just thought they were some kind of symbols.  i definitely saw the bird and the one that looked like a rocket, and i could have sworn there were some that were that coiled-snake symbol of the dharma initiative--did anyone else notice that?  anyway, i am glad that there's something different that happens when you let the time run out--maybe i am a pandora, but there is no way i could just keep mindlessly pushing those buttons without knowing what would happen if i didn't--even if it's something bad.  so yay jack!  locke looked so scared!

and i love sayyid, too--i like seeing his backstory.  i think that guy is an "other" also, and it does look like they are going to reveal some of what happened to claire in the jungle--sayyid seemed to be foreshadowing that when he was talking to charlie at the end.

I just watched it on my Tivo. I don't have any dazzling theories to add, but I just wanted to say how much I love this show, and how carefully the details are crafted.

There was so much symmetry here on the theme of being an Other. Henry Gale was, of course, from the Wizard of Oz -- a story about Dorothy as an Other in a strange parallel universe. The American soldiers were Others as invaders in a foreign country, and conversely, Sayyid was an Other among the Americans.

I do have questions for you guys, though:

What was the purpose of the scene with Sawyer and the frog? To reinforce the badass/no mercy image?

Henry Gale IS an Other, right? What was he doing in the jungle? Spying? And doesn't Rousseau live way on the other side of the island? What was she doing in the middle part?

Next week's previews seem like Claire went through some sort of experiment? Do you think they did something to the baby? Could Aaron be some sort of genetically altered human?

so i finally watched this episode (at work, hee hee) - i LOVE sayid.  he's my favorite on the island, i think...especially now that sawyer killed that poor little frog.

halleybird - i think you're right, the only reason for the frog thing was to show that sawyer's a badass with no regard for anyone/anything.  that or to get hurley some camera time, since he's been left out lately.

i definitely think henry is an other, and who knows what rousseau was doing.  i think she travels all over the island, checking her traps and such.

i also think the others must've done something to aaron - i cannot wait to see next week's episode to find out what happened to claire while they had her.

and i was so proud - i totally knew that was kate's dad (i usually miss these little things)

i hate jack and his holier-than-thou attitude.  if he makes them let henry go, or lets him stay with them, or anything before sayid gets info out of him, i hope the others take him first.

anyone have any new ideas/theories since this thread started?
