i'm curious.

i just tried to read about it, but it doesn't really explain what goes on behind the scenes.  of course, when you read about it online, it doesn't sound that crazy.  so can someone tell me about the craziness involved in this religion?

hiding kate holmes until baby is born?

no prescription drugs?

spaceships and aliens?

WTH?

Check out http://scientomogy.com/xenu.php

It makes fun of Tom/Scientology, but it also gives some real info.

*************************************************
Who is Xenu?
I wish I was making this up.........

75 million years ago there was an evil galactic overlord named Xenu who ruled over 76 planets including earth (then called Teegeeack).

Due to overpopulation, Xenu decided to gather up the 13.5 trillion people on these planets and send them into volcanoes on earth off the Canary and Hawaiian Islands. He then dropped H-bombs and killed the people.

Xenu trapped the souls of these people in boxes and implanted them with a false reality. The confused souls with these false realities attached themselves in clusters to the last remaining people on Earth. Today we all hold about 2,000 alien souls that can only be released by a Scientologist with auditing sessions. So you pay lots of money to learn a bunch of self-help mind over matter tricks. In Scientology you are brainwashed into believing an un-true history, and you are promised an unattainable reward. Scientologist believe that once you have reached the upper levels of "OT" you can fly around and move things with your mind and do all sorts of fun stuff.

This cult Scientology was created by L. Ron Hubbard, a warp minded 1950's science fiction writer.

I think the "crazy" part for me is that they won't disclose their beliefs even if you are a member until you get higher up into the religion. And I use all of those words loosely (beliefs, religion). I just think if you can't be honest about what you believe up front that it's hokey. Like they have to brainwash you little by little so then the Xenu story makes perfect sense to you. I mean, what sane person would think that's true?

Although I don't claim to be an expert in any way....

I don't really know or understand much about it but for a really bizarre behind-the-scenes look check out this interview with L. Ron Hubbard's son which was published in Penhouse in 1983.

I'm pretty sure the point of scientology is that any explanation is going to cost you... so I don't know how much I could reveal unless you could provide a valid credit card number...

cc, thanks for posting that article.  It took me a while to read the whole thing but it was very informative and affirmed that this "religion" (and I use that term loosely) not only a bunch of BS but really sadist and messed up.  I feel so bad for his son not to mention the other people he screwed around with.

this is a really interesting undercover investigation of Scientology. I think it's from like 10 years ago. It's long, but pretty fascinating. I think it originally ran in Spy magazine and then became part of a book called Hollywood Interrupted: Insanity Chic in Babylon -- The Case Against Celebrity.

oaky, i read both cc's and halleybirds articles.

INSANE !!  they are all crazy.

in cc's article they beat people up and are obsessed with home abortions?  what kind of mind alterations do these people do to actually think that this is okay?

and after reading halleybirds article, i said to myself "tom cruise really IS gay and it will come out if he's not full blown scientology fanatic"

and that woman whose before & after picture was posted?  when she was in an accident and the scientologists took her out of the hospital?

wow.  how does a person actually get to the point when they can be brainwashed to beleive that this is the right way to go?

WOW- read halleybird's article too. That's just really really crazy.

Anybody else wonder if Oprah is involved? She seems "spiritual" on her show but she is admittedly really good friends John Travola, Kelly Preston & Kirstie Alley - not sure about Tom Cruise though. I just wonder why they'd be really good friends with people that don't believe what they believe? All that to say that I am an Oprah fan, not a hater....
