A while ago now, after my husband moved out, I painted my bedroom a light purple and rearranged the furniture.  All in an effort to eradicate memories of him in there.  Now I've had to bring in my son's bookcases and books since he's in the destroying stage of toddlerhood.  So, the room is basically very light purple on the walls...light brown furnishings and the white bookshelves.  I went with a cheap bedding set that's a white background with purple floral detailing...fairly delicate looking.  At some point I'd like to get something in there that is a bit less girly...but...I LOVE the purple!

Anyone have ideas on either inexpensive furnishings or some accessories that would work with my walls but not be as girly?

I love purple and chocolate brown together...a shot of chocolate may help take the girly edge off all the purple...brown seems to be a big color for the home right now...here's a few things from Target that might work...if you have a Target near by check out the Global home section you may find additional accessories in brown...

Also check places like Home Goods and Marshalls small accessories like brown woven storage baskets/boxes...a little texture may add interest to the room as well.

I'd go with some black and white photographs on the walls, which will lend a sleeker, more sophisticated vibe (and they will work in any room, in case you want to use them in another area of the house later).  Allposters.com has a good selection of cheap prints... just find an inexpensive frame and you're good to go!

Also, do you have a mirror hanging on the wall?  A nice big one with a modern feel will help de-girlify, too... plus mirrors reflect light and make the room seem bigger.  These are from Target:

This one is from IKEA.  It's 10" square, and only $2 a piece.  You can buy several and put them in a cool pattern on one of your walls or above the bed.  It'd be really easy to paint or stain them a dark color if you wanted, too.

I second adding brown, it's warm and comfortable.  I also love Targets global decor section.
