I was "closet shopping" and I am torn what to do/how to wear the following 3 items. I need some expert help! If you think they are *yuck* and I should get rid of them please say so...honesty is appreciated.
#1 Vintage leather vest. Was my Mom's from the 60's but is in beautiful condition. Its a great caramel color. But is it wearable? What outfits could I make with it?
Open
Buttoned
#2 Ben Sherman Shirtdress. I bought this in a Ben Sherman-induced haze (I Ben Sherman) But it doesn't look "right" too me somehow. Can I wear it over jeans or is it too long? Am I too old (almost 27) for the cropped tights look? Please ignore the pink cords...
Its a bit big, should I have it taken in?
#3 Vintage brown-check wool skirt. Its really pretty IRL. But I don't know what to wear with it so it doesn't look too frumpy. I can't find shoes that work well, I think b/c it comes to just below the knee. Its chocolate brown with cream and blue in the checks- what can I pair with it? Should it be shortened to knee-length?
#1 Vest. I think it's a cool piece if you can work it in somehow. How to do that, I don't know.
#2 Dress. I don't think the fit is flattering at all. You so tall and slender, and the dress doesn't do you justice. It's too baggy.
#3 Skirt. I don't think it looks frumpy. Again, you're so slender that it doesn't make you look big. I think the longer length looks okay, but maybe if you hemmed it you wouldn't have any mental hangups about it, and you would wear it more.

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
Keep the vest, I'm picturing it with a beater and pretty floral gauzy skirt for spring. Oh, and I like it unbuttoned.
I think if you keep the dress it needs a belt slung over it. And I think it could work over jeans.
Love the skirt and I like the length. I think you should pair it with pink. I'm picturing it in a pretty, girly, Anthropologie kind of way. Maybe some peeptoes or pointy toe mary janes.
I really like the vest and the skirt, too. They're both adorable. But the dress doesn't look flattering on you, so I would probably get rid of that one.
dress, i like, but i'm thinking it's too big on you. maybe get it taken in? or a belt?
skirt, i like but may like it more hemmed. i see it with a tank, and something over it, high non-strappy shoes, and a cute clutch.
BTW, this is the first picture i have seen of you, and you look nothing like i imagined; you had darker skin and darker hair in my mind. you are very pretty.

I think the dress could work with a belt over it. A cool girl from the outback look. Wear with a girly shirt underneath and keep the two buttons of the shirtdress undone to see it.

FP beat me to the punch..these are my feelings exactly. the dress does need taken if you are going to keep it.

You are so cute, btw! That vest is totally cool - I think Sienna Miller wears these often. Maybe you could check out some of her looks? I like the dress, but it does look too long. Is it possible to hem it, or would it look cool if you just cut it off and let it fray? And yeah, it definitely needs a belt. I like the skirt, though. I think it's ok as long as you're careful not to wear pieces that say mom - boxy tops, for example.
I love the vest, its a keeper. I would do something like a pinstripe blouse under it to contrast with the leather, button the leather vest and keep the blouse untucked. I would wear a slouchy pair of trousers and some funky flats. I think with the leather you need to soften up the look a little, but that's just my $.02. (I couldn't find a pinstripe blouse I liked)
Man, you're teeny!!!!!!! That vest does a great job at emphasizing your thin frame. I really like it. I'm terrible at wearing vests, so I'll leave outfit ideas up to the other girls.
As far as the other items go, I like them both and I think you should keep them both.
For the dress, I'd have it taken in a bit and maybe have the sleeves shortened, if possible. I also think that dress needs a low slung belt to make it work. A funky leather belt would look great with it.
I love the skirt too. I don't think you should change anything about it. As far as outfit ideas go, I'd pair it with tights and tall boots, or tights and contrasting t-strap heels, or just t-straps w/ no tights. On top, I'd do a belted cardigan or a shirt in a pretty jewel-tone color like this:
I'd steer clear of pairing it with a white button down because that tends to look like a school girl cliche. I think you could also wear the skirt with a white or gray beater tank and a bunch of chains and pearls.
vest -- definately keep it. it's so cute and has sentimental value -- you'll so regret getting rid of it.
dress -- i love the shirtdress look (ala delia's) and i don't think you're too old to pull it off in the right context. BUT you definatley must have it taken in -- it should fit really close to your body.
skirt -- the skirt is pretty and would look great how FP described it, but if you haven't worn it yet, you might never really get around to putting an outfit together, so if you're trying to clean stuff out this would be the thing to lose.
I'm late to this, I know - but have been out of town since 1/31.
I love the vest - can totally picture it the way FP posted. It's gorgeous and I think you should def. keep it.
The dress might work with a belt over it (a wider, thicker belt) to cinch in the waist, and maybe some Fryes (or Frye-type boots).
The skirt is beautiful - I'd wear a heavier shoe, like a somewhat chunky round-toe with it, or boots. And since it is below the knee, I'd go with a top/sweater that hits you a bit higher (above the hip line). IMO the top you are wearing with it in the pics is too long. A shorter, form-fitting top would really show off your hourglass figure.
