Shelf help

I want some cute, small wall mounted shelves to put in my living room next to an end table. Basically I want to use them to put my iPod charger, phone charger, etc. on. Something where it won't take up much room, stand out that much, but be completely useful.

The end table is on a staircase wall, so the location is perfect because the wall is too odd-shaped to be used for anything else. Plus the space is too narrow and short to have a standing shelf unit (not to mention that I'm not going for full-on shelving here, just cute and small).

So I was browsing Container Store and saw this:

It's very cute, don't you think? But the heaviness/seriousness of books like that wouldn't go in my living room area. So I was thinking of finding some acrylic, i.e. clear shelves that are smaller than the size of a magazine and glueing or placing a magazine (I'm thinking a few Budget Living mags I like the look of that I've kept around for whatever reason) on the clear shelf to create the book shelf look of above but with lighter, brighter magazines. What do you girls think? Too much? Wouldn't work? Cute? It just came to me so I haven't thought it entirely through yet. Looking for opinions.

Also, any idea where to find simple (and cheap!) acrylic shelves?
