Last night's Lost -- spoilers

Hey, what did you guys think?

After last night's episode, it seems to me that Charlie and Jack are much more alike than I thought. They both have this saving people complex -- Jack with basically everyone, and Charlie with little kids. But Charlie has a hardness to him at times, like when he was yelling at Rousseau last year -- she had taken Aaron, but she was clearly having a mental breakdown, and now here he is in a similar situation himself. Also, he made that remark to Lock a few episodes ago about how Claire had to learn responsibility and about being a mom. At the same time, I felt kind of sorry for him last night, even though Claire was right to be alarmed about him keeping heroin around.

One thought about Hurley and how he asked Libby if he knew her from somewhere -- last season he admitted he'd been in a mental institution, right? Well, she said she was a psychiatrist -- maybe she had been working at that institution where Hurley was in some capacity.

Ooooh, nice observation!

I thought last nights episode was a little boring.  Seems like they went through all the trouble of deepening Charlie's backstory, but we never really got enough new info for it to be really intriguing, like they didn't even really hint at any new revelations.  Yeah, we know Charlie's freaking out, but to me the possible reasons why seem weak.  Or maybe I just find Charlie's character boring.

Another thing, ya know how Sawyer commented to Kate how Jack and Ana Lucia have gone into the jungle alone together alot?  I think it's them beginning to plan how to go about training an army .....

haven't watched this episode yet, but libby is a psychologist, not a psychiatrist.  two very different things, although she still could have worked in a mental hospital and encountered hurley there.

I want to know why Locke put the heroin statues in the hatch safe! Why didn't he burn them?  I wonder if he's going to tempt Charlie with them later? (Or start dealing smack?!)

If I wanted to train and army, I'd ask Sayid... he's the only person on the island who was actually *in* and army.  I'm kind of disappointed that Sayid hasn't gotten much to do lately.  I really like the character and want to see more of his back story, etc.

Like Elle said, they should have gone into more detail about why Charlie is going whacko.  Is it withdrawal? (wouldn't he already have gone through that?) Or, is this what the island is making him see? Kate sees a horse, Jack sees his dad, Walt saw a polar bear, Charlie sees Aaron in danger?  I do think something will happen to Aaron at some point.

One thing I really, really don't want to see happen is Locke and Claire getting romantically involved.  I don't think Locke should have a romantic interest, he's too connected to the island, and I think it would be out of character for him to get it on with a hot young blonde.

I was thinking that too! Side thought: how gross was it when she asked Jack "Are you hitting that?" about Kate? Gee, how classy.

To me that is actually the most endearing thing she's said yet!

I wondered why locke kept the heroin too - i wonder if charlie's test isn't over yet or something?

I was only half paying attention last night b/c I was talking to N while Lost was on.  I'm rewatching this evening, but here's what I think.

The episode was kind of slow, but I think that there are so many little details in this episode that make up for that.

I definitely think that Charlie is using again.  He looked like he looked last season when he was in withdrawal, all pale-faced and red-eyed.  I think island is partially controlling him and he's getting the sickness.  As for his flashbacks, they were very surreal, unlike other previous flashbacks.  It was as if the island was sending them to him.

I actually had the same thought as scarlett about Libby and Hurley's possible connection being the mental hospital.  That story she made up about him stepping on her was a total crock. There's something off about her.

As for Locke, he's getting a little strange, too.  Why wouldn't he just destroy the heroin? Why lock it up with the guns? Or better yet, why not give it to Jack, who's a doctor and could possibly use it for medicinal purposes?  And about him and Claire, I don't think they will become romantically involved.  I think that he's connected to the island and it may be controlling him as well.  So, that could lead to a scenario in which he gains Claire's trust and then takes Aaron.  Locke just seems weird, like he's in cahoots with The Others or something.

And Ana Lucia is just nastaaaay!!!  Totally. "Are you hittin' that?" Greeeeat.

Nyla - do you think maybe Charlie wasn't using, and that he has the "sickness" or whatever was affecting Michael and Shannon?

Did you notice that the camera switched immediately to Locke when Charlie mentioned Aaron being in danger? Maybe Locke will be involved somehow.

I miss Sayid too.

I think it's both.  Neither Michael nor Shannon looked like Charlie looked.  He looked like a junkie in withdrawal, but I think he's definitely getting the sickness.

I hope not! Locke is my favorite character! I don't want him to be in league with the Others.   But I do think that somehow he will be involved with whatever happens to Aaron.  I wonder if his role will be to put Charlie in a position to save the baby.  Or to choose between the heroin and saving the baby.  Because I have no idea why he didn't destroy the heroin.  The smart thing to do would have been to burn it.

Yeah, I don't understand why he kept the heroin either. Does it have any medicinal qualities? I'll try looking it up.

That episode was weird.  On one hand, I liked it a lot--I like the character driven episodes because I like learning more about them as opposed to just plot driven episodes.

I'm still confused as to why Locke kept the heroin.  That doesn't make any sense.  I don't really think Locke is in cahoots with the Others.  It just doesn't make sense that he would be.  I think he has a definite connection with the island that the others don't, and I think he knows more about the island than everyone else, but I don't think he's working for the Others or anything.  It's hard for me to pick a favorite on the island, but I think Locke is it for me.  I just find him fascinating.

I have no idea what to think about Charlie.  When he took Claire's baby during the night, he looked really screwed up.  His lips were all pale and his eyes all dark.  Not so hot.  I definitely thought that he was using, but he seemed to be really sincere when he was telling Jack that he wasn't using.  I also think Charlie's smart enough not to use because he knows the ramifications of doing so.  I'm still not sure why he would keep the Virgin Mary statues though if he wasn't using.

I have a feeling that the Ana Lucia/Jack/Sawyer/Kate love triangle (or is it a square?) is going to heat up big time.  I think that each pair definitely has some chemistry, but I really think that Jack and AL are only planning the army at this point.  The army is going to be pretty bad-ass too.  You'd have Sawyer, Kate, and Charlie, who have all killed people; Ana Lucia, a former cop; Sayid, former Iraqi Republican Guard; Jin, who's pretty bad-ass; Locke, who knows is way around really well; and Jack to fix them all up.  Not a bad team they have going.  I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

I think this is a hoarding instinct at work, though I haven't ever been a drug addict before so I may be off .

I'm anxious to see more of the 'love square' play out.  I like Al/Jack together, and I like Sawyer/Kate together, but I still can't quite let go of Jack/Kate being together (and obviously they can't either).  I think it's because they're kind of Alpha Male/Alpha Female, and it makes sense for the group dynamic that they'd be together.  Or maybe they'll just all end up "hittin' that'" in an effort to promote genetic diversity whilst they repopulate the island
