Should I Go?
Permalink Closed

so my bf's friend has invited us to a Superbowl party.  it's the same guy who's gf wanted me to buy her a dress with my discount...i think it's an excuse to show off his 52" plasma (i'm trying to hold back my negativity...), so should i go and open up the lines of communication again....or should i go to a party that my brother has already invited me to, which would be less of 30 y.o. party (no offense to anyone, but i can't think of a better description), and more of a college frat boy party...that i would probably have more fun at, but i think it would make me look like i'm holding a grudge if i didn't go (which i am holding a grudge...)

here's the link to my thoughts/issues with this couple...

Can you go to both? If I were you, I'd start out at the bad couple's house and stay for the first quarter and then say you have to go to your brothers (because of course he asked you ages ago and you promised). Lots of people have multiple Super Bowl parties to go to, so I think it's a viable excuse. Plus you look good.

nope, because you won't be enjoying yourself. life is too short to waste your time with someone you don't want to see/do things with.

have fun at the "frat" party.

What does your bf want you to do?  Is he definitely going to his friends party and not your brothers?  I guess my answer would depend on his plans...

It sounds like your gut is telling you not to keep this thing going, and Bluebirde's suggestion sounds perfect (girl, you are my miss manners...)

ohhhhh.  i didn't even think of that!!  i used to do it all the time.

i can go, get a couple of free drinks , then, maybe have my brother call me and loudly say, "i told you i'm coming, i'll be there at half..." so everyone knows i'm not just bailing cuz i really don't want to be there, and then just peace out...

but then i'll also just pretend to my bf that i'm not really in junior high, that there's just certain times in life that you have pretend you're really that cool.... and that this is one of them.

kill them with kindness , use them for drinks, and then get sloppy drunk at the "cool" party.

I like blubirdes advice- if you go to both, you make your BF happy and yourself happy.  It's a win-win situation.

I like bluebirde's advice.

Anyways, I remember reading your post and just checked for an update. So what was her response?

She did have some nerve!

Love this strategy!

she responded to my e-mail "oh wow, i had no idea.  the ____, is such a good time, too bad you're not going".  um, i felt a little passive aggressive-ness in the e-mail.

i also sensed it last night at the "party".  i decided to do what blubirde suggested.  we went to the first party (10 people total including us).  when we got there (with desserts), i was ignored by her until about ten minutes after i arrived.  (it was in an apartment, and there weren't many people so it was kinda hard to miss our arrival).  my bf's friend T was nice, and i was nice too.  we arrived and half the party was drinking water and then he made some gourmet hotdogs, but would only make the exact amount that was going to be eaten since he didn't want to waste them (i decided not too indulge since i might get scolded if i only ate half).  needless to say, i drank a couple beers, sat on the couch and watched the game.  i hardly talked to his gf M (five minutes of which i initiated the conversation), and nothing was said about the dress.

my brother's party was awesome.  my sister (19) was wasted.  i got to play with a baby puggle (soooo freaking cute, i'm seriously in love!!!), and the keg was kicked right at the end of the game (high class i know). definitely more my style.  the only water being served was from the guys mouth who passed out on my brother's bed, and left the party with drool stains on his sweater.  hot!

i've decided the best course of action is to make an attempt with my bf's friend T and his gf from now on, but to keep it short and sweet (dinner, a couple hours here, a couple hours there) and invest my time doing things that really make me happy (like holding people's legs for kegs stands) .
