Ok, so I've known I'm pregnant for like 3 hours and I'm already starting to think about preggo clothes, hehe.  So, preggo girls especially, I need your help.  What do I need to get started?  Roughly how long will my regular clothes fit?  Any info or tips is appreicated

Check out a Pea in the Pod. They have NICE stuff by cute designers. I was just in there (not for me... that's a scary thought) to get a gift certificate and they have adorable things.

I could wear my regular jeans until about halfway through my fourth month, and then my belly kind of came out of nowhere....like one day my pants fit fine and the next day they were painful. However, I started wearing looser/maternity tops sooner than that (probably toward the end of my third month) because I felt self-concious/uncomfortable in some of my more fitted regular tops.

It's hard to say what you need to start with because depending on how far along you are now, it may be spring before you actually need to wear maternity clothes.

Congrats!!  Can't wait for your maternity thread style posts!!  Seriously, ST should come out with outfit books by category (maternity, work, school, going out), I'd buy it!

Ok, where do I start?

my suggestions:

one of the first purchases you'll want is maternity underwear because, well, that area of your body will be the first to change...and comfort is key in the first few months of pregnancy.

you'll probably find that you either lose or gain weight for the first few months....usually in first pregnancies 'the belly' doesn't really show until the second trimester. So definitely find some comfy pants with elastic waists.  I found myself most comfortable if I could wear them low on my hips so they didn't push in on my waist.

definitely invest in one super supportive bra during each stage.  as that area stretches and grows you want to keep it supported to minimize 'after effects'. :)

Peasant cut blouses will become your best friends cause they play up all the good curves and smooth over the bulge.

My advice?  Substitute kitten heels for high heels and have a comfy pair of slippers waiting at home.

I'll try to keep thinking of things...it's been a few years though...

i didn't buy maternity underwear, instead i just bought my favorite underwear a size bigger. (it's mossimo underwear brand from target that is just like victoria secret's seamless underwear) they don't have lines and they stretch with me, so they are fantastic and really comfortable. actually i have been fortunate that my boobs haven't grown, so i am wearing my regular bras. (i find t-shirt type bras the most comfortable)

i bought one pair of maternity jeans, two pair of black pants and a few maternity tops. i love the gap long and lean maternity jeans. i have been using them since about 4 months (i am 7ish now) and i haven't really needed to size up. (i wouldn't mind another pair of these, but gap maternity is a half hour drive and i am lazy. plus i tried ordering online and they were way too big/long. so inconsistent!) i actually wouldn't mind a pair of khakis, either...but i mostly live in the jeans/black pants.

i have been avoiding buying a lot of maternity stuff, and just buy tops that stretch, and will fit me after i have the baby. layering has been a big thing with me. since i can wear my old jackets/cardigans, i just wear a maternity shirt and then layer.

dresses have also been helpful. i could wear a lot of my regular dresses until about my fifth month...and i have been wearing knit dresses otherwise. knit is so nice because i think it's very forgiving. so what if it's body conscious!? i love my pregnant belly :)

hmmm ok let me think.

you are due in october i would assume.

i would buy a preggo trench or twill pea coat for the spring.

start off with 2 pairs of maternity jeans, one in your size now, and one in a bigger size for the later months.

get yourself a sports bra NOW, because those suckers are going to grow and be painful!

hmm what else

long rice heating pad .. i have one that has lavendar scented rice.  it was a godsend for both pregnancies.

stock up on your prenatal vitamins, orange juice and folic acid and start taking them immediately.

if i think of more, i will post them here.

congrats again!!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Congratulations!

I wouldn't go too gung ho right now, since you never know how early you are going to show, how big you'll get, if you'll carry high or low, etc.  You could probably get some good deals on some basics right now though .

For the early stages, I'd get things that can be worn while your body is recovering afterwards, and once you're back to 'normal' too.

And maybe a pair of designer maternity jeans?

Congratulations FP!  I love those options HeatherLynn posted, too cute!

I was pretty tiny when I got preggo, so I started showing a tiny belly at 20-21 weeks.  I was able to stay in my regular clothes up until that time.

I didn't buy maternity undies, I just stuck to regular cotton panties or low rise panties, nothing too fancy.

I can't wait to see your adorable preggo outfits
