ok- so yesterday in nyc it was around 50 degrees- right now, with wind chill, weather.com says it feels like 0 degrees. plus it snowed so streets are icy. my car spun out TWICE today on a short 10 min. drive. i'm really scared to drive again, but i wanna pick something up on craigslist tommorrow night. it says temp will be 33 degrees in the morn, then creeps up to high 30's. i know water freezes at 32 degrees- but do you think it will be melted by tomorrow night? there is just some minor ice on side streets. for some reason, i don't really notice ice melting til a sunny warm day happens.
picking something up from craigslist? does that mean something for your new apartment??? i think you would be cool as long as the sun is shining. if it's cloudy/overcast then drive slowly! and perhaps by then nyc will have salted? maybe?

If you start to sliden (in an automatic) shift the car into neutral, that should stop you from continuing to go forward and gently brake. Then when you're ready to continue, go back into gear and go really slowly over the ice.
thanks girls- unfortunately the guy did not get back to me again so i fear its sold. i just got home from work (its 7:30) so its pretty cold, the ice hasnt melted on my street, my trunk has a ton of stuff in it (a suitcase of clothes and a very heavy box of magazines), and i have a stick shift so i can't do brazen's trick- though i do have neutral- wonder if its all the same. sigh, i guess nothing worked in my favor !
