Hey mika! Just wanted to check up on you and see where you were. I know you're starting a job in Chicago soon. Have you moved yet? How's the adoption stuff coming? I feel like we haven't heard from you in awhile.
Sorry if I'm being all nosy...just wanted an update!
Thanks for checking. I moved to Chicago last Friday and started work Monday. Of course, it is all new, but we love it here. We found a great house to rent in Palatine (kind of like Cary, NC)---I will post pictures...3 BR/ 2.5 bath/ 2 car garage and a sunroom. (One is perfect for a little nursery)
Everyone is really friendly in the midwest and there are lots of choices for shopping and food. My husband was here for a week and got all the power/gas/cable/vonage/house cleaned etc. done and I went to work. He scouted out all the neighborhoods and shopping. We both started working at 16 at the Fresh Market in NC--- an upscale gourmet grocery store that started in NC. They have one in Palatine.....so it is like a little piece of home for us and something familiar. The YMCA near our house is incredible---so much nicer than our Y's at home. The cardio machines have tv's--that just fascinates me for some reason....yes, I am simple.
OUr neighborhood is older and quaint near the little downtown and has sidewalks.
Our house already sold in NC and we close on the 27th, we sold a Jeep in one day, I cleaned out stuff for goodwill, did a last massive ebay selling, then we had to say goodbye to friends and family. It all happened so quick ---
I am alone now, he has gone back home and I will fly home in 2 weeks for the movers and the closing and then we will drive back together with our Disgruntled cat, Mika.
The job seems right up my alley---candy buyer---yum! I love the Sears HQ-It is huge, on-site day care, hair salon, bank, cleaners, places to eat, convenience store, etc. They have adoption assistance---$3000.
The adoption will be this summer some time--we can't wait but that gives us a little time to settle in and get prepared.
THanks for asking. I really think this is going to be good for us.....a new start and a new adventure to discover together.
I can't get on ST at work--(I think BIg Brother is watching)

mika, that sounds so great. I'm glad things worked out for you.
On another note- did your vet give you meds for your cat to travel? When I moved with a cat my vet gave me the equivalent of kitty valiums & it made the ride MUCH easier - she slept under the seat the whole time. Plus when she came to most of our furniture & such was set up so she was comfortable in the new house instead of being completely freaked at being in a new place. Just thought I'd mention it.

So glad to hear things are going well for you guys!!! I can't believe you all have moved, sold your house, sold your car, and done all the rest of that stuff in a matter of weeks! That's pretty amazing.
Oh, and I am so freaking jealous that you have an Ikea near you! Grrr!
Anyway, I'm happy for you guys! Sounds like things are going great!
Your post sounds so happy and peaceful. I know you and DH have been through more than anyone should have to deal with in recent times and I am glad that things seem to be working out so well for you both now. I've hoped and prayed that things would come together for you both and am so happy that it seems to be happening! Congratulations on the move and selling the house so quickly!

Hey Mika, I tried calling you I think wednesday and left a message. I know you are probably really busy right now though. I am so glad you like the area and that you found a house. Palatine is a great place to live and much cheaper then Barrington. Have you checked out The Woodfield or Algonquin Commons shopping yet? They are both the best pplaces around here for shopping by far. Hope we get to chat soon, let me know if you ever want to get together.
Mikacat--It sounds like everything is going so well, and that this new life is so suited for you. I think your job sounds awesome (I love candy), and your neighborhood, house, etc. sound just perfect. I'm so excited for you! Thanks for giving us an update--I have been wondering about you.
