your dream home and than some...
Permalink Closed

Okay my dream house would be a huge two story with lots of windows and hardwood floors all through it. It would have a wrap around porch so I could sit and drink my coffee and spend quality time with my hubby. It would have to have lots of space so nothing would be cluttered, (I dont like clutter). I would love to live in the country  with some hills around me but not far from the city so I still would not have to travel to far for shopping and such. Although if I could afford this why not have a huge beach house for my home away home. I also would have a house keeper to  help out with the cleaning so I could do things I enjoy such as gardening, reading , travel, cooking , shopping of course and spending time with my family . Okay back to the real world

I found my dream house about two years ago. They had a website dedicated to it! The asking price was $10 million, but they dropped it to $8 million! Anyways, the site no longer exists so I'm assuming someone finally bought it. It was beautiful. It's a tuscan villa, and I wish I had saved some of the pics because this house is stunning.

Indoor pool with uv screens on the windows.  An outdoor pool would be useless for me now, since the sun now makes me get that terrible itchy rash.  I don't even want to think how I can never take a damn sunny vacation.

Moving on...marble or granite floors on the foyer, heated floors, panic room, double staircase, gourmet kitchen, beautiful courtyard garden, guest house.

This is fun. I like mid century modern home like these with lots of floor to ceiling windows or sliding doors with tile floors or terazzo floors with recessed lighting throughout. Everything has super clean lines.

I'm not asking for much:

I'm such a selfish bitch!  The house diagonally across the street from us is listed for 3.3m, and it has a really cool indoor pool and waterfall.  I wouldn't mind that!

A townhouse in SOMA San Francisco with views of the Bay Bridge would be cool....

But really I'd take anything that had good views and a HUGE closet, or a room I could convert into a closet.

This is my favorite home... it's the Swan House in Atlanta. It's just so classic and elegant. I love that it's not just a house, but a refined estate. Doesn't it look straight out of the Great Gatsby? It would be the perfect home for large scale entertaining and the gardens are to die for. It's now owned by the historical society and can be toured during the day and rented for events. Since I can't have this exact house, I'd settle for something similar.

A beautiful apartment in Manhattan on 5th overlooking the park. It would look like Charlotte's apartment in Sex and the City, but I would decorate it differently.

this is a fun poll!  mine would be a cozy, smallish 1920s-30s cottage on one of the hill streets in laguna beach (ca), maybe 2-3 blocks back from PCH and the beach.  i'd like to put in ebonized plank-floors, and a high-end kitchen (all stainless).  i want big comfy white couches and would probably knock out some walls to make it very airy and open.  i'm determined to have this house someday.  while i am dreaming, i will add that it has a backyard big enough for a pool, which would be trimmed in painted mexican tiles.

of course, if i was really dreaming, i would ask for a $10 million estate built into the cliffs in this gated community called emerald bay, about two miles up the road.

I'm moving in with sfclinevandy!  I adore Southern estates *sigh* Soooo beautiful.

Hey, bumblebee, if you're gonna live in Laguna Beach, would you mind keeping me up to date on all the hot, juicy LB gossip?  I just HAVE to know what's going on with Kristen, LC, and the rest of the gang.  Haha jk.  Sort of.

sfclinevandy...that house is SO beautiful! It looks like it doesn't even belong in this country, like it should be in the English countryside or something.

Some stuff I'd put in my dream house:

a tower. Always wanted one:

library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and those rolling ladders (actually sort of planning this for my current house, though it definitely won't be as big!)

home theater/screening room:

curved staircase:

courtyard:

omg! i LOVE awesome homes more than anything- i wanted to be an architect when i was little and would always draw little floorplans and stuff.  HB- i've always wanted a library like that- similar to the beast's in the disney version of beauty and the beast.  that would be so grand.

hmm, all of your home pics are awesome. I have about 5 dream homes, and they all completely depend on the location.  I adore southern estates as well and really old colonials, but it would have to be in an appropriate place- maybe conneticut or somewhere preppyish.  this girl i know has an awesome house overlooking the naval academy in annapolis- it looks like a colonial in the front but it has these huge columns in the back kind of like the estate posted.  its big but not TOO big to feel like a home.  since its old, its so awesome- it has doorways that lead to secret staircases and a ballroom and a meat cellar and the girl lives in this cool room that used to be slave quarters that has its own secret staircase.  they have a small apple orchard even, and a pool/huge hottub .  this house is sick- i don't even wanna guess how much it would be worth because of location, history, and land.  I would guess maybe 5 million at least.  i'd so live there.  If i had money, i'd want a really cool old traditional house.

i've also always wanted a 30's bungalow type home in the hollywood hills.  It would be so glamourous but casual- maybe even sort of similar to the 2nd and 3rd ones that sunshinegirl picked.  I saw some pics of rachel zoes house and while i dont like how she decorated it per se- i love her house.  I'd decorate it in a modern/soft way- like rich natural colors juxtaposed with chrome details in the kitchen and stuff.

i'd also like a southwestern rancher, a mountain ski resort, and a small falling apart cottage.  I love cottages!  and those views of san fran are breathtaking- maybe a cool penthouse there or in nyc or in london.

GEEZ!  i like everything.  the only thing i'm not typically attracted to are really modern looking things.

  • All wood floors (I have a strong hate for all carpet)

  • Nice sized pool

  • Big built in bookcases and a ladder like HB said

  • A dressing room with an island and cedar drawers

  • Shabby chic decor

  • Lots of fireplaces
