long hair issues
Permalink Closed

i am growing my hair out and it is about 3 inches past my shoulders at this point.  i am not used to having long hair (this is the first time in my life having it) and i am struggling with one thing:

when i wake up in the morning, my hair is all knotted up in the back.  I tried sleeping with it pulled up on top of my head last night but the ponytail fell out in the night.  i guess i am a thrasher in bed at night

any ideas on how to get rid of "bed head"?

I comb my hair, then run Frederic Fekkai glossing cream through it. I've also heard sleeping on satin pillowcases prevents tangles-never tried it though.

is this what you do after you wake up?  on 2nd day hair?  my hair is very fine and thin and i can't use "glossing creams" on it.  i never met one that liked my hair type (and i've tried just about all of them!)

if this is something i would do before washing it- perhaps that would work.  but i'm afraid that on my 2nd day hair (i don't wash every day) that it wouldn't work b/c it would weigh my hair down.

^^^Yeah, after I comb the snarls out on 2nd day it gets really static-y, so the cream just helps to smooth it down. Also I wear my hair in a bun while I sleep so in the morning I get nice little waves.

I've never had this happen to me and I've had my hair down to the middle of my back before .  Do you sleep on your back?  Maybe that's why.  You could try putting your hair in a low bun and then when you wake up it will have a nice wave to it.  Do you mean knotted like tangly or just with creases in it?  I get creases in my hair when I sleep but I just run my flat iron over in it the morning for a couple minutes and it looks fine.

Buy one expensive really good satin or silk pillow and it will make a total difference. Your hair slides around rather than bunching up.

try a silk or satin pillow. or putting your hair in pigtails to sleep in.

I also use a leave in conditioner when I wake up...it doesn't make my hair as greasy as glossing serums do but it smooths out the tangles.

I have to echo the satin or silk pillow case suggestion.  It really does work!
