Is this classic or just old and boring looking?
Permalink Closed

Ok in an effort to wear items in my closet i dont wear often, I am considering wearing this black skirt with red and white plaid detail.  I have pics of similiar skirts that closely resemble this one i want to wear.  And would pair it with a plain red turtleneck, black tights, and cute black knee high boots.  For some reason I just feel like I look soooo unstylish, and seems like such a boring outfit, I mean it seems so predictable to wear a red turtlenekc since the skirt has red detail.  What do you girls think?  Do you like it the way Ive put it together or could you suggest alternatives?  Ive looked in my closet and can't find anything to liven the outfit up... Or maybe its nice to just go for a classic look every now and again, or is this look even classic?

This one is the same shape of my skirt and this is the angle my plaids are going but the bottom one looks more like my skirt as far as the all black color and the detail of the plaid

This is how the plaid looks on my skirt, just angled  more like first skirt

Please be honest, I wont be offended, as I feel iffy, and dont want to look like a total fashion disaster at school!

I think your instincts are right, and that the outfit is a little too ho-hum looking.

Really the issue is the turtle neck.  Because the skirt is longer and kind of heavy, I think you'll just look too "covered up," especially with the dark tights and boots.  How about a red v-neck, or another red top that shows a little more skin?

i agree with eurodaisy, you will need to show some skin to "liven" it up a little. i was actually thinking that maybe pink would work, is the skirt have any other colors in the plaid? like maybe two shades of red or something? really, honestly, sweetie, i think that this outfit might take a little bit of work. take a couple of hours and just try all your shirts on till something clicks. sorry i wasn't more help.

What about pairing it with a graphic tee?  That would make it a little more casual and less predictable.  Maybe something like this?

I think the turtleneck and skirt can work together, but substitute the boots and opaque tights for black patterned tights (something subtle like a chevron pattern would work nicely) and some funky pumps. Bonus points if the pumps are in a complimentary but contrasting color like teal/turquoise.

i agree with lilykind... wearing it this way will give you a "sexy secretary" kind of vibe which is hot!
