I am wanting to try my hand at making some jewelry.  some earrings I need a neclace for and a neclace I need earrings for are inspiring me.  Is it hard?  Do I need one of those saudering tools or can I do it by hand?  Anyone who has done it, especially Nylabelle, let me know.  We have a really great bead store near me so I want to see what I can do.

You will be able to do it all on your own. I started making my own jewelry over the summer, now I'm hooked!! There is a store near me called The Bead Shop, and they have a website with and online store and some info on how to make jewelry.

Go to
BeadShop.com and they have a section called "Tips," and if you select "Techniques" it will give you some pointers for free. That is how I taught myself to make jewelry.

ETA: To answer your question, it is not hard, but does take some practice and patience. The employees at your bead shop might be able to help you. The store I go to features classes too.

Here is some of the stuff I have made.

jewelry making is fun! I bought a set of tools for cheap. No sautering, just pliers and wire cutters..etc. You can do most things by hand. The beadshop website is a great resource, and the workers at my local bead store are also very helpful.

I just recently started making jewelry and I love it!  I love the beadshop.com website for inspiration and tips as well.  Definitely check out classes at your local bead store...  The place I go to has an area in the back of the store where you can work on projects and get assistance from the employees.. they have helped me out a lot!  It's definitely an addicting hobby.

By the way.. zeitgeist4 - I love the jewelry you made..very pretty!!

There are also some good magazines out there for helping you learn basic techniques, Barnes and Noble has a good assortment. Also if you aren't ready to invest in tools yet, most bead stores have tools on hand for you to use in the store.
