bachelorette ideas

i'm trying to plan a bachelorette trip for a friend.  our original idea was to do a weekend trip to miami or la (we are in northwest ct, about 30 miles west of hartford), but lack of time off and cost have become slightly prohibative.

so we want to do something that is within driving distance from home (nyc and boston are both 2.5 hrs which is do-able).  logistics are that the other bridesmaid lives in atlanta and will be flying up to meet us for this.  we are thinking of trying to combine the shower and bachelorette in the same weekend, so she will only have to fly up once.

we were thinking of a friday evening cocktail shower, which would leave us all day saturday and sunday for the bachelorette.

bachelorette activites we have come up with are: day spa, shopping, dinner and drinks, 1 night hotel, brunch, shopping.

any suggestions for day spas in NYC or boston (or anywhere else)?  we found juvenex in NYC (23rd St i think) which looks nice, prices are resonable, and got good reviews online.

how about hotels?  any suggestions for not too expensive (i know that and nyc are totally contradicotry) cool places?  does nyc seem like a better choice than boston?  (one plus for nyc is that we could take the train and not worry about driving and parking).

also, as far as the activity schedule, would it be better to do the spa on saturday (we could probably arrive in the city around noon or 1) and then go do drinks, dinner, go out ... brunch and shopping on sunday OR do shopping, etc saturday when we arrive, go to the hotel, drinks, get dressed , dinner and go out and then do the spa on sunday?  (we will most likely end up having a few cocktails on saturday night so i'm wondering if the spa will be better after or before that) ??

thanks for any suggestions about anything !!!

thanks.  i knew you would be good for some ideas.

i guess the friday evening shower idea has been nixed already (concerns b/c there are a couple people who have to drive over an hour and the bride thinks they wouldn't come on friday night).

what do you think if we had to do a shower on saturday? i think the earliest we could do it is 10:30 (that even seems early to me -- esp. for people traveling)? say the shower could be over by 1. we book out by 1:30, catch a 2:30 train, get into nyc by 4.

i think that would be too rushed (it would definately push the spa to sunday). the other bridesmaid loves to pack the schedule and make it really stressful so i can see her loving this idea (this is the same bridesmaid i posted about last year who wanted to pack seeing 3 venues, dress shopping, and the engagement party (which i was throwing and doing all the work for) into one day)

We did a joint shower/bachlorette for my friend(who's now pregnant!) but we all went to MD from Boston and NYC!

We did it all in 1 day and it was the best time!

We had a really nice bridal lunch/shower w/all the regular bridal shower-y games(if you're into that) then went out dancing that night after a stripper came to the house we had the day in. My friend was a shower/bachlorette party traditionalist.

I say to the Spa on sunday AFTER the night out. you don't want to get all massage oily or facial goo everywhere, then have to shower before going out. Better to get to NYC Saturday, shop around, lunch, whatever, go out saturday night then Sunday have some brunch, go to the spa(make sure you go to one that's open on sunday...shouldn't be too hard to find in NYC....try www.spafinder.com) then head home.

Well my friend never got back to me but here are a few ideas:

The shower that I went to in NYC was a blast, we went to a Hawaiian restaurant and they had booked a semi-private room. They theme was things for the honeymoon, and she was going to hawaii for her honeymoon so the restaurant was perfect! After the shower we headed out to a few bars and as her bridesmaid I gave her a list of things that she had to complete that night..it had stuff like get a number, get a guy to give you his boxers, and more silly things.

Our tradition for showers and bachelorette parties has been start with a nice lingerie shower and then go out for the bachelorette party.

Another shower/bachelorette weekend was we had gone to the beach and had the bachelorette party on Saturday and we all dressed up as different 80's people, it was a blast! Then the next morning we had a shower down by the pool and the theme was a things for the honeymoon and we all stayed in our pj's!

those sound like so much fun.  i love the idea of the shower by the pool.

unfortunetley, most of the people going to the shower will be parent-y types and the itinerary for that will be straight up eat, drink, open gifts, have cake, go home.

there are only going to be 3 of us for the bachelorette (she's having a small wedding and inviting mostly family)

Then I think a nice dinner somewhere, see if you can get a semi-private room and then give her an "Around the house" Shower and then have on the parents take the presents home and then go party....!
