flashback *trends* remember when...
Permalink Closed

so the other week i was in anthro and i saw an older woman wearing jean capris with the asian brocade fabric bands at the bottom hem  (they are like a trim and then a wide band of fabric). do you guys remember these?  I had a capri and a pair of jeans like this!

so this got me talking bout "remember when..." with my co-workers, and i starte to remember all the "trendy" things i had once upon a time and ponder if I had kept them, would they become "vintage" and if a future daughter would enjoy?! hehe - i know im a dork!

  • *glitter* jeans!  i had 2 pairs!

  • jeans with ruching (mine were down the fronts of the legs) but some ppl had the whole leg or on the side seams)

  • ankle zippered jeans (i had a guess pair in elementary school and now i wish i had kept them! - hahah

  • cuto-out shoulder tops from the 80's

  • double layered slouch socks in contrast colors!

  • and i think we have all seen the return of leg warmers, many things 80's, and leggings (but tankfully without the stirrups!)

hope im not the only one LMAO as i remember (much with fondness) these style flashbacks! feel free to add on some of your faves! :P

I did that!!  I also had the hyper color shirts.

How about the thing that you put your tshirts through so they scrunched up on one side.  Then wear you hair in a side ponytail with a scrunchie and you were good to go!!

Schrunchies...gah!  The schrunchies!

Neon colored spandex under dresses or skirts

And for some reason I was like obsessed with alien motifs when I was younger .  I wish I still had my glow in the dark alien earrings...pretty sexy, huh?

My friend has this awesomely bad troll barrette from when she was little and she still wears it as a joke sometimes just to spice up her uniform...lol.  I think it's the funniest thing and totally encourage it because anything that tacky needs to be displayed, but when she tries to break out the schrunchies I just shake my head...

I did that to my jeans, too!  And I had the little thing to pull your shirt thru, too.  I had awesome parachute pants in like 1984 that were tight instead of floofy, and everyone loved them.  Of course, I was in 4th grade.  And Esprit was HUGE, so I had everything Esprit or Esprit de Corps in wild colors.  Couldn't afford Benetton, or I would've had that, too.

Remember sack-waisted jeans in about 1988?  Maybe by Palmettos?  And jeans with a little pastel pinstripe to them?  And of course LaCoste, which has come back.  I loved my LaCoste shirt w/ the collar up!  I was a trend hag at such a young age!

Ohh remember banana clips for your hair? I loved they way they gave me like a horses mane in those things.

And Snap bracelets? and layers and layers of jelly bracelts, fingerless lace gloves.

Edit: I remember one more thing. IOU sweatshirts. My parents were poor and bought one at a flea market and it said UOI and I was devestated.

i used to do the two different colored t-shirts.  one under the other and rolled the sleeves so you could see the shirt underneath.  tied a knot at the waist.  and i did the socks too.  my mom would allways make me do the huge bangs.  she would split them in half and curl the top part up and the bottom part down and then teese them and hairspray them until i couldn't feel my forhead anymore.

Me, too.

And LA Gears, to be worn with as many pairs of shoelaces would fit of course!  My pair had lavendar, mint green, and silver laces.

My parachute pants (which we called Hammer pants, back in the day ) were black with pink flowers and green leaves on them.  I had a matching scrunchie .

Ah...the 80s.  Good times.  I definitely rocked the side ponytail and the scrunched socks and the pegged jeans and the LA Gear high tops with two laces for each shoe and the shoelaces had to match the socks.  I also had the Esprit book bag with ESPRIT written as large as possible across the bag.  Mine was green and reversible.  Extra cool points for that.  I also remember that the most fashionable way to wear a tee shirt was to tuck it in and kind of poof it out over your pants to create a blousy effect and then roll up the sleeves.  And you HAD to have Guess jeans.  And they had the little upside down red triangle on the butt pocket so that everyone knew they were Guess.  I had knockoffs though cuz my mom refused to spend $60 on jeans for me when I was 10.

Unfortunately, I remember the early 90's as being particularly bad too.  I remember wearing these really sheer babydoll dresses with leggings underneath them.  And pallazzo pants with a matching vest.  Nice.

Don't forget the mini dress/skirt with the white thigh-highs and black mary-janes!

Rember the button down blouses that the top part would be a solid material pattern like plaid and then the bottom half would be see through and the sleeves would be see through but the cuffs would be the solid material.  I actually saved one of those shirts (it's in the attic) because I figured that would be a "vintage" item or at least my daughter could some day wear it on "90's dressup" day at school haha.  I'll try to find a picture...

I did all of those things, but I also wore BODYSUITS!!!!!  I had like a couple of them and I wore them with tight jeans or miniskirts and each one had a matching neclace or choker and earrings that were HUGE and usually both pieces of jewelry together made tremendous clanking and jingling noises.  How gaudy I must have been with all that and my PERMED HAIR and BIG BIG
BANGS to boot?!?!?!?  Hot stuff I tell you.

LOL...This thread is cracking me up!  I remember all this stuff, but I didn't wear much of it.  My mean Mom () would never get me anything that was cool.  I was always slightly devestated that I didn't own Keds.

It wasn't until I was old enough to get a job that I starting being able to by into trends, by then it was all about the grunge.  Doc Martens (which I still love), flannels, and ripped up denim shorts worn over thermal underwear, etc.

Yes!  That's the funny part luckylily, after the 80's style dyed out, it was all grunge!  I had this fabulous body in high school and for the first 2 years of it I was wearing huge ripped jeans and my dad's shirts with really ugly shoes!!!  What the hell were we thinking?  Thanks A LOT Kurt Kobain, Offspring and Green Day!!!

This thread has me seriously cracking up and laughing - becasue I can say I had at least 90% of what everyone is talking about! AGH!!! Bodysuits!!! ROTFLOL~

Thing is I really remember the late 80's stuff (from elementary school) with great fondness - all the neon and crap associated with them.  except the MC Hammer pants. I remember I'd always get my foot caught when going the stairs and falling! LOL!

the early's 90's were particularly bad until CLUELESS came out - which I still love the movie! :)

SEE - this thread shows we were ALL style mavens since a young age!

Now i want to see pictures of everyone in these getups! that would be hilarious!
