How to ask about another job within my company?
Permalink Closed

There are usually jobs posted for Associate Buyer or Assistant Brand Manager within my company ... I have to have 2 years of experience within my current position to apply for these jobs.  Right now I have 1.5 years.  HR is of no help here, they really do not take out the time to give one career advice if they ask for it, so I wanted to email the managers that one would be reporting to if I were to apply for one of these positions.   Something along the lines of, "I have been here X amount of time, would I qualify, what are you looking for.." etc.

I need ideas on what to write in the email.
Thanks.

Probably the best thing to write is that you know a manager who knows them. Other than that, what you wrote sounds fine.

I'm thinking it would be good to tell them

1.  (first paragraph) Why you are qualified for the job.  Use their posted job description to find out what really matters to them and based on that, focus on 3 strengths that make you the perfect candidate.

2.  (second paragraph) You realize that they are asking for someone with 2 years experience, but based on blah blah experience you received someplace else, you can do a excellent job. Would they be interested in talking?  I kind of went back and forth whether you should even mention that you haven't been there for 2 years, but decided you should so they don't think you just didn't read their job description.
