This is the season again for gift giving, but do you feel obligated to get someone at your job a gift IF they get you one? I just had a lady drop a gift off in my chair, which of course I thanked her, now I feel like I should go out and get her something in return. Am I the only one who feels this way? I had only planned on getting a FEW gifts for folks here at my job, who have helped me out thru the year......

At my job it is made very clear who you get presents for and who you don't. (I'm not on the receiving end, I assure you.) So I'm preparing my 4 gifts this weekend I guess. Bleh. I hate being forced to give presents.
All that said, I don't think you have to give presents. The 4 people in our office we have to give presents to don't have to give any in return (and never do), and it's no big deal. No one even expects a present in return. Besides, if a person does expect a present in return, screw 'em. They probably don't deserve one.
LOL You are SO right, esp. if they expect a gift in return! LOL

i don't work in an office. but i am just giving to my boss and two co-workers who were really there for me this year at work.
edited to add: don't feel like you need to give this person a gift just because she gave you one. i really like to give things to people and i never expect something in return!
Apparently, long before I started working there, my office used to have a HUGE problem with gift-giving. I guess for every birthday and holiday gifts were given to everyone. Now it's specified in our Personnel and Policy Manual that everyone gets one ice cream cake and a card for their birthday and that's it. No other gifts. At first I thought it was so weird, but it's actually REALLY nice to have this kind of thing outlined so no one has to feel guilty about it.
Anyway, I'd get the gifts for the people you want to/need to get gifts and I'd make a ton of sugar cookies, decorate them, and give those to the people that you weren't planning on giving a gift to, but who got you a gift.
