to mail out today, when i noticed the little alarm thingy is still on the present i bought! i really don't want to go all the way to where i bought it, anyone have any ideas on how to get it off?
Maybe could you take it (with the receipt) to a store with a similar alarm thing so they could remove it? I can't imagine another store would mind if you explained your situation (esp. if they knew how far away the other store was) and you had a receipt to prove you paid for it.
Or maybe if you know someone who works at a store with a similar anti-theft device, they could remove it for you?
Im not sure what kind of device it is... but i know it happened to me once and my dad used needlenosed pliers to remove it

If it's one with ink, you want to cover the holes with tape then cut the needle. This is how we take ones that are stuck off at work. Yesterday this lady came in with some jeans and she tried taking the ink device off herself! Um, why do you think they put them on in the first place? She had ink stains all over her hands! So she ruined the jeans and made the trip anyways.
ummm, you could try not stealing your SS gift? Of course I'm picking - I feel so bad for you - that sucks so bad! I had this happen once on a cocktail dress & I didn't notice until i was putting it on the night of the event. Man I was PISSED.

This happened to my Mom once - it was on a dress she bought and when she went to lay it out the day she was going to wear it, she noticed the security device was still attached. She called the store, told them she didn't have time to drive all the way out there, and they actually sent someone from their store to her house to remove the tag!
Now that's kind of extreme obviously. But I would at least call them and complain - you deserve at least a small form of compensation for your troubles IMO.

i did this once! what a great sa i was! and it wasn't even my fault. the girl called my store (shoe store) because someone left the device on and she wanted to wear them that night. luckily her dorm was on my way home, only about two blocks from my house so i could just stop and take it off for her. luckily we had a device-taker-offer thing that could be moved around. but yeah...im awesome.
but otherwise...needle nosed pliers work.
