I sold some Uggs on eBay yesterday. I told them I'd ship them out today. I have the box that the boots came in (they're new), but not another box to put them in to protect the original box. Do you think it would be okay if I sent the boots out in the original box covered in brown craft paper? Or should I look for another box to put them in? Would you be ticked if you received new boots in a dinged up box? I'm just afraid the box will get messed up in the mail and the buyer will be mad. I have a TON of stuff to do today, and searching for a box is not what I want to do, but I'll do it if I have to.
I have done that many many (maybe 20ish?) times & I've never had a problem. UPS gets a little grouchy about it because they say that if the paper rips then you lose the address & such. I just wrap mine like a present & tape with that very sticky mailing tape, then I put several rows of tape around the box too - I mean, I really don't know how that can possibly rip.
My 2 cents, HTH.

when i've bout nib shoes from ebay b/f the seller just wrapped the box in paper and sent it out like that. the box didn't seem damaged. and even if it had, i wouldn't have cared less.
That brown postal paper is surprisingly sturdy. I think you'll be fine. I've also just taped up the shoe box really really well and affixed the label directly to that and that worked fine too. I wouldn't waste your time trying to find a box.
Thanks. I won't worry about it then. I know I wouldn't care, I was thinking they might be a Christmas gift, and some people are very particular about boxes when they give a gift. I think I'll put an address card inside the box just in case the brown paper rips.
Yeah don't worry about it. I've done this a few times when I couldn't find a second box. I just do what laken1 suggested - criss-cross the box with clear mailing tape in a few spots and it should be fine.
