My cat gets Friskies canned food. She used to also eat Meow Mix dry (that was the ONLY kind of dry she would eat), but she has since decided she'd rather starve than eat dry food, and will cry until she gets wet food. She's so precious.
well my cat toby eats purina cat chow- thunder used to eat purina lamb and rice, but since he goes through food like it was water-breaking the bank hehe we started giving him the sams choice it is called maximum(i think thats how spelled) anyway it has the same amount of protein as the other and he likes it
Our cat eats Iams, which is supposed to be pretty healthy. We tried the diet Iams formula, but it seemed to make him hungrier (maybe he knew he was eating diet?)
We've been told that wet food has fewer "fillers" but that dry is better for teeth.
In either case, he's a very big boy for a two year old cat!
I asked my vet about the best food to feed my cats, and he said as long as you chose a name brand that you recognized (I'm assuming Meow Mix would be included), anything was fine.
I feed all natural foods, I guess you would call that gourment. I avoid stuff with filler (a lot of dog foods use things like peanut shells) and excessive chemicals. I absolutely will not feed anything with animal "by products," which I think is totally gross. My pets are my kids, and I'm not going to feed them something I wouldn't put in my own mouth. They probably eat healthier than I do.
My dog eats Natural Balance Duck and Potatoe. My cats eat Select Care Hi Factor.

Wet food does tend to have less fillers. Switching from dry to wet will usually help a cat to lose weight, they tend to stay full longer on wet food. Dry is probably a little better for teeth. However, the reality is that most cats should have their teeth cleaned a couple times during their life regardless of whether the eat wet or dry food. Tooth health has a huge genetics component. One of our cats has eated dry food his whole life, but he still had a rotten tooth by age 3.
BTW, if you are worried about teeth, "brushing" teeth is pretty easy. The have enzyme cleaners now that you basically feed the cat and the enzymes break down the bad stuff on the teeth. My cats like the chicken flavored a lot.
I just switched my animals to an all natural food, I'm not sure what the name is though, but I can find out if anyone is interested. I stopped by a privately owned pet store & couldn't believe how soft the owner's dog's fur was! When she told me that it was all from diet & that he never gets groomed, and only gets occasional baths I decided to switch without hesitation. I brought my boyfriend back just to feel how soft his coat was and how good it looked, and he couldn't believe it either!
The best part was it was only $1 or $2 more than Iams & because it's such high quality, you don't have to give them as much so really it's not even more expensive. She was saying that regular dog food is made with "dog quality" meat and lots of low quality additives, compared to this stuff which is made with "human quality" meat. I had no idea there was such a big difference.
My dog gets Innova brand kibble. It seems to be good for her coat...everyone asks if she just had a bath, even if it was 4 months ago she last had a bath!

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
I used to feed my cats Eukanuba but now I just get Iams from the store. The way I see it, the high-end foods are definately better but the regular/discount versions aren't bad--just not as good.

Luckly lily-
where do you get this enzyme cleaner--

Mine too, on luckylily's recommendation. Up until a few months ago, they both ate Kibbles n Bits (which is gross, but when we first got Halley it was the only thing she would eat). My vet said it was fine, though not the best choice. A few months ago, both dogs started having some stomach issues, so I switched them. My husband is NOT happy about the price (or that there's only 1 store near me that sells it), but he does like the fact that they have, er, smaller "piles" on this food.
