Getting authetic bagels from NYC...
Permalink Closed

I have to do a Secret Santa gift exhcange in my office. The limit is $25. I was thinking of getting some bagels shipped from NYC to Los Angeles because my Office Secret Santa LOVES bagels and pines for a real NYC bagel every day. Can this be done? H&H Bagels can ship them, but it costs around $40 to get a half dozen.

i'm thinking it would be extremely expensive just because they'd have to be rush shipped- even day old bagels aren't as good.  my favorite bagels are murray's though- not sure if they offer this service:

i'm excited to learn more about good bagel places in the city!

is there anyway you could find a new yorker that sells bagels in LA?  they've gotta be pretty damn close- though it would be cute to have them sent from NY- just pricey.

My mouth is watering...it's been WAY too long since I've had a good real NY Bagel. *sigh*

lynnie: I wish the bagels were true and authentic...I really do. My SS orders a bagel from the same place every day at work because she says it's the most like a NY Bagel, but she hasn't found anything that quite matches that level. The pizza doesn't quite come close, either, although I have found one good pizza place out here.

Karina: I you. Thanks so much!!!!!!

Lilykind you MUST MUST share your pizza place:)  My b/f and I are obsessed with NY bagels and pizza.  We like Mulberry Street Pizza - it is close to NY pizza.....I think the only thing that is stopping us from moving to NYC is that we will weigh 500 lbs each.  All we do is eat when we visit.  And we both agree that H&H makes the best bagels in the City.  The best bagels I have ever had were from Teaneck Bagels in NJ.

Anyway, sorry that I am not answering your question at all...

Is it really the NY/NJ water that makes bagels/pizza so good?  Or is that an urban legend?

LOL Tara, I have lost weight since coming to LA...the good food here is all too close to healthy.

For pizza, I love Albano's on Melrose...it's super low-key, the slices are cheap and it's pretty close to NY Pizza. It reminds me of the pizza I used to have all the time in HS.

I do not particualrly care for Lamonica's pizza, but the garlic knots are mmmmmmm so good.
