tennis anyone?

hey, do any of you girls play tennis?  i really want to get into it, but i play so infrequently that i never make any progress.  i'm a pretty athletic girl, but i feel like such a spaz on the tennis court.  has anyone taken tennis lessons?  did they help?  or does anyone have any pointers?

i have been playing tennis my whole life. i love the feeling of tennis. it's a great sport for cardio and strenth training. in the summer, i usually try to play about 3-4 times a week.

i would definitely say start with some lessons. i would say it's just good to work with one of those ball machines. they are great because you just get to hit balls repeatedly (instead of picking up balls around a court). the repetition is really helpful in the beginning when you are trying to get a feel about how and where to hit a ball.

also don't buy anything expensive. the type of racquet you may think you want now may not be the best to you playing style later on... so just get a cheapo one or borrow one from a friend until you get a feel.

yay! i'm glad you're taking up tennis! it's my favorite sport and it's a lot of fun! :)

also the fashion is so cute.

I have played my whole life too. It is a great sport.. and you really do have to be very athletic. It takes a lot of hand/eye coordination.. It was always very much a mental game for me.. and I like that it is individual sport.

I taught tennis lessons to kids for about 4 years. I have a lot of tips and tricks but it would be very hard to try to verbalize them! I definately recommend lessons. They will help a ton. Good luck!

i have played my whole life until i broke my ankle.  i was on the HS tennis team and was recruited to play in college.  i chose not to play in college, because i require lots of time to study.

tennis is a sport you can play all of your life.  it's a great lifetime sport.

joceybaby i used to teach kids how to play too !

and as jocey said, i do have pointers, but it's tough to talk about them.  take some lessons; they are fun. maybe when you are ready, you can get into a league.

i always liked playing, but on top of that, you can look cute while playing also.  just a little bonus !
